There are not enough words to do justice to the great friend and colleague we have lost. Curious, imaginative, kind, a personification of journalistic rigour and integrity. Massive 40k fan. Many of us have achieved things we would not have even tried without him. RIP

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our colleague, David Knowles. David was a talented journalist and a much-loved friend and a colleague. He will be greatly missed.

Good stuff from @RolandOliphant on REPMUS, uncrewed surface vessels and what we need to do to transform naval warfare using such technology. telegraph.co.uk/world-news/202…

Great article with a realistic view on what's going on. Don't read replies, there are more experts with "AI can change the war, they should try..." who never saw the phone battery massacre our weather does. Guys, "Ukraine not trying new stuff" was hardly ever the issue.

A petrol crisis didn't break Ukraine in 2022 so not I'm no sure it will break Russia now - but don't underestimate fatigue with the war. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/10/0…

🟥Starmer has blamed Brexit for the surge in migrant crossings - but is this a fair take on the situation? More organised gangs (and bigger boats) also play key part - and Albania deal proves deals can be struck to make an impact - with @JamesCrisp6 telegraph.co.uk/politics/2025/…

Drone warfare has not lessened the requirements for physical fitness or toughness for infantry and many other specialties. Ukrainian infantry often have to walk up to 10 kilometers just to reach the front line and often spend months at a time on the zero line without rotation.…

The sad and dangerous irony here is that the future of war is happening in Ukraine, and it's drone warfare, which has nothing to do with dusty boots, or beards, or how many push-ups you can do. That's what we need to be preparing for. nytimes.com/2025/09/30/us/…

In 1916 it was the tank. In 2025, it is lasers and stuff. How the war in Ukraine is sending us hurtling into the grim darkness for fully automated robot war. telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/10/0…

And the grief I got for mentioning battleships to @TomSharpe134 ...

NOW: @realDonaldTrump says he's considering having the @USNavy develop new battleships: "It‘s something we‘re seriously considering." cc: @johnkonrad
