Well, since I can’t see the rest of the game, I’ll just say: good morning to everyone except knees, turnaround twos, the west coast, power outages, and whichever etsy witch cursed this team.

I read this the first week I was in Guatemala for the first time. By myself, still getting comfortable being in a place I was just learning the language, still getting lost everytime I went out..and it was one of the most intense reading experiences ive ever had. Loved it.

The first 120-page section of McCarthy’s The Crossing is perfect in a way few novels get to be, and concludes with a passage only a handful of writers have been capable of producing.

I only loved about 40 percent of the movie..every second Benicio del Toro is in it is fantastic

PTA shut down production and ballooned the budget on this movie so he could cast Benicio del Toro, and the very first shot of him instantly proves it was worth it

I truly do not understand this. Black American troops in WWII fought to defend our country and defeat Nazi and Japanese tyranny—even while the US demeaned them, assigning them to segregated units. Their heroism is different, deserving of recognition. washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/11…

Considering Chester Arthur and the whole Chinese exclusion Act Veto saga makes this post even more interesting

alright I’ll take the bait: Chicago’s original Chinatown was in the Loop, where the city’s highest concentration of Chinese residents lived. Many were not legal citizens and given that the Chinese Exclusion Act passed in 1882, the govt census estimates were likely inaccurate

One of the things the show does well is having Colin acting as an adult ( sometimes well sometimes haltingly ) really only at her house.

Penelope was the reason Colin found his purpose because she saw him for who he truly was and loved him unconditionally, which allowed him to feel worthy and confident without having to rely on external validation. Her love and acceptance gave him the security to be himself.

There is a local Indiana political writer who often goes national. I am more or less aligned with his views. He's the Glen Powell of political writers. There is No rational reason I dislike his product and yet I roll my eyes every time I see his byline or a tweet of his.

Lol. Just read the Granta article the algo gave me where Subrahanyam said he'd prefer people read this instead of Sen and Dalrymple. I look forward to doing that history is always about going deeper..but those guys are available at the library and this guy isn't. Such is life.

Reading a few chapters from this excellent book on ‘early medieval’ India with our History majors cohort (BA program) tomorrow. Manu Devadevan shows how to push the needle while being empirically grounded & analytically sharp & creative. This is a book you cannot miss at all!

I am not 100 percent sure why twitter has all of a sudden decided to give me tweet after tweet of interesting India history stuff (I mean I am reading a lot of Indian novels and non fiction but twitter doesn't know that) but I am very glad. Even if it is going to be expensive

The ever-prolific S. Subrahmanyam’s take on derivative works that don’t rely on authors’ original research insight, & why being an anti-RW historian/writer doesn’t shield one from critique, esp if their methods & tactics mirror those of their adversaries granta.com/indian-temptat…
