Does anyone have any good Tu BiShvat jokes? I'm stumped.

Not sure what the Strathallan equivalent of a groundhog would be - the red squirrel on the school drive perhaps - but sincerely hoping he does not see his shadow today - please can it be an early Spring!

I have an older pupil who struggles with organisation, so I trim and glue his class notes into his jotter each lesson. Got to the point where, without saying a word, he gets the paper trimmer and a Pritt stick out and lays them next to his jotter. Always says "Thank you".

I learn that an exam board does not think it correct to use the term 'Jew' when describing Jewish people. I'm Scottish but I'm not insulted to be called a Scot. If you are worried about insulting Jews, look to the intention of the comment, rather than the signifier.

Had to teach on Teams today - first time since the Covid lockdowns. GCSE lessons on Christian worship and belief in the Messiah. Lovely responsive pupils made it easy. 🤗 (Many thanks to All Tyred Out for braving the storm and replacing my car's back tyre, complete with nail!)

No notes. None of those things are in the Bible & the majority of scholars would agree.

A couple of very enjoyable lessons today: 4th Form on the importance of the Talmud for Jews 3rd Form on views on the death penalty in 'Into the Abyss' I do enjoy teaching such willing and enthusiastic pupils!

We have received many encouraging responses to my appeal over the weekend about Holocaust Memorial Day. These included a particularly moving email from a teacher in Sheffield, who followed up with this blog post which is worth taking a moment to read. waynechadburn.substack.com/p/holocaust-me…

In case you missed it on last night's Only Connect - proud to say that, like the team in the studio, I got the connection by clue 2 as well!!

Heaven and Hell This amazing wall painting at Chaldon (Surrey, c.1170-1200) is one of England's most important medieval survivals - a complete medieval sermon in paint spanning the entire west wall.
