Supreme Court sleep-in appeal decision is blow for everyone in social care, says UNISON zpr.io/RZdNm

Not uncommon for NW social care workers to be paid below £5ph for sleep in work. Today Supreme Court rules whether to outlaw this poverty pay and enable backpay claims. @NorthWestUNISON members will be watching live. Keep an eye on @StandUpForSC for updates #mencap

Today the @UKSupremeCourt decision is handed down on ‘sleep in’ rates. Especially poignant for our members who took action over so called charities using this to drive down wages. Poverty pay is wrong and hopefully get result they deserve today @NorthWestUNISON @unisontheunion

#socialcare managers please let your staff know that: We can support them if they have to: ✅ Isolate or Shield ✅ Cover the cost of a funeral for next of kin ✅ Struggle with childcare costs They do NOT have to pay the grant back 🤲 bit.ly/38q3V3j

More coverage of @Hftonline's #socialcare findings: ➡️Almost 2/3 providers reported an increase in absenteeism due to mental health issues during #Covid19 ➡️1/3 said they'd made redundancies ➡️1/10 revealed they'd had to offer care to fewer people itv.com/news/2021-03-0…

'Claps didn't pay the bills' for care workers says Labour's deputy calling for £10 an hour wage rise #homecare @unisontheunion @AngelaRayner bit.ly/37oQ4tz

The Care Workers' Charity supports thousands of social care workers in unimaginable hardship. The Gov must invest in our care workers, and the sector- and give them the pay they deserve. End ‘poverty wages’ for social care workers, Angela Rayner demands independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

Great to see @AngelaRayner committing @UKLabour to at least £10 an hour pay for care workers. This is in line with our campaign ask for care worker starting salaries. We want to work with Labour councils in the NW to make this a reality. It's time for action after the applause.

A pay rise is the very least that our care worker heroes deserve after all they have done for us. Labour's demands for a pay rise to at least £10 an hour would put an extra £50 a week into the pocket of an underpaid care worker. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

Reports of UK care workers having to take holiday when they are off sick with #COVID19 or see already low wages fall to £96 per week, raising fears they may not self-isolate. theguardian.com/world/2021/feb… @GdnSocialCare

SO much great info and insight from @closethepaygap and the #GenderPayGapManifesto hashtag at the moment! Important to so many sectors including #SocialCare
