My unasked-for 2 cents 1) Less kids are “reading for fun” outside of school. (I find the stats devastating!) This impacts things more than school does. 2) The farther secondary ELA gets from “lets read and talk about cool books” the farther it gets from being a *solution.*

Here is an unfortunate part about grief. I NEED TO TALK TO THE PERSON THAT DIED.

First Friday Open Mic is my favorite. Two seniors taking a beautiful risk today singing and playing the piano! #wearecreative @sppscass

It’s been two years since we had a night like this. Great families. Talented kids. Supportive and knowledgeable staff. This was the food my soul needed as we head into spring break.

The stage is set for our first annual Arts Night!

I always wanted the game Operation as a kid. It was even better to play the games students had made. 😂

Mr Winberg’s Physical Science classes made their versions of ‘Operation’ to demonstrate current and voltage. It was so fun to play!

Just because most kids are in school buildings doesn't mean that this year is "normal." Many are saying it's the hardest year yet.

Watering the school garden when it’s in the 90’s is a Saturday family affair.

We will have two community gardens at @sppscass this summer: one for our downtown community and one for our school community! #wesupporteachother

Shoutout to our Environmental Science classes for getting our playdeck community garden started!

If you can barely recognize the Twin Cities you know and love, please listen to our neighbors who’ve been living in fear, inequity, and insecurity for their entire lives. We’ve mistook quiet for peace for far too long, and the absence of justice for some means insecurity for all.

Today we acknowledge that if our belonging means someone else doesn’t get to belong, we are missing the point

Kicking off today with some grounding!

I have never successfully used a planner in my life. But distance learning has me trying all sorts of new things.

Using your assignment book really can help keep track of things in distance learning.

As families pick up their materials for school we’ve been offering them vegetables from our community garden. Today I harvested potatoes! It’s been so awesome to feed our downtown and @sppscass communities!

When I read things like this, all I want to teach is percentages and statistics. That’s it. Be critical interpreters of data. #mathisimportant

Fauci on Trump’s 99% harmless claim: “I’m trying to figure out where the president got that number. What I think happened is that someone told him that the general mortality is about 1%. And he interpreted, therefore, that 99% is not a problem, when that’s obviously not the case”

His sigh at the end...I felt that in my soul. Share black history. Honor black humanity. Recognize my role in benefiting from & perpetuating whiteness and oppressive systems. Act accordingly for healing.

I hadn’t thought of it this way. Triage, really. Online learning will be a reality in 20-21. We have to be a speciality center vs an emergency room.
