Is this the woodpecker which helped Romulus and Remus (along with the she-wolf?) This bird was also sacred to Mars, the boys' father.

Well, it's goodbye from him...and it's goodbye from me, as The Two Ronnies used to say. And if you have been, thanks for listening (over the last 30 years) or retweeting/liking (over the last 2)! DJC
For any teacher retiring this term & teaching lessons online, it's a bit hard to claim not to be "telephoning in" the final lessons... because you are!!
Your word of the day is: GROKE v. n. (Scots) To gaze at somebody while they're eating in the hope that they'll give you some of their food. (definition via @qikipedia)
I've had emails this morning saying the £29.99 paperback of A People's History of Classics: Class and Greco-Roman Antiquity in Britain & Ireland which I wrote with @henrystead has sold out. Routledge Taylor Francis are reprinting it as I write. It will be available again soon.

The magnificent peaks of Súlur, along the Ring Road in Iceland⛰🛣 Driving the fjords in Austurland, East Iceland is a dramatic and scenic drive, but you can also hike towards Súlur from the town Stöðvarfjörður, on the other side! #inspiredbyiceland #iceland #hikingadventures
...and Dr Dalley has impeccable Classical background. Her father was Sir Denys Lionel Page, who was elected the 34th Regius Professor of Greek at Cambridge University in 1950, a position he held until 1974.
As we go on half-term (is it Friday, is it October, who knows?), I leave you with a programme which in an earlier incarnation (Timewatch?) inspired me to begin a very modest study of cuneiform. Thrilling stuff! youtube.com/watch?v=JTRK6M…
I took it at the British Museum’s ‘I Object’ exhibition where it had been displayed to replicate how it had been found in the excavations. Inspired!
Bronze head of #Augustus currently on display in the #IObject @britishmuseum exhibit, positioned to evoke roughly how it was found in Meroe, Sudan: face down under the steps of a temple. Inspired curatorial idea to present it like this & great to see the portrait from new angles.
Is there a lovelier electronic sound than the "ping" when you join a Google Meet?

#twitterchallenge Your Horace quotation to fit these strange times? #Horace
Yeah, yeah "dulce et decorum..."! A-level text 3.6 contains a Horatian line more apposite today: "delicta maiorum inmeritus lues, Romane." Translation which does a little violence to original: "Citizens, you will pay for the sins of your “betters” - though you don’t deserve to"
