On this day in 1763 possibly one of the most important inscriptions in #Pompeii was found outside the Herculaneum Gate. It was to be one of 5 similar inscriptions dating to ~AD 76 found outside the gates of the city & was the first formal identification that the site was Pompeii.
Bound together through grief and by holding hands, these 5th/4th century BC women once processed and danced inside a tomb found in Ruvo di Puglia. The rhythm of their movement & their coloured garments is just beautiful and looks almost abstract. #FrescoFriday @MANNapoli

In the Middle English dialect of the south of England, fricative sounds like /f/ at the start of words became voiced – so /f/ became /v/, and a fox was a "vox". A couple of these voiced variants have even made it into the standard language. It's why a female fox is a 'vixen'.
