As someone who works in #dataviz and leads a professional org for viz folks, I'd never heard of either of these conferences before seeing your post. We have an annual conference and it takes deliberate efforts to recruit and encourage speakers from under-represented groups.


I would get the most out of Summit if you stopped just having the same white men speaking year after year. The boys club is tiring. Maybe try selecting more diverse speakers. The PASS playbook is just a recipe for bankruptcy.

Keeping a speaker, sponsor, or attendee of your event secret because you know it will outrage people and cause them to not buy tickets - is there a word for that?


It doesn't instill great confidence in a data organization when you can't do a mail merge. I wonder how badly @PASSDataSummit misdirected those emails. Did they just get mixed up among accepted speakers? Or did speakers get acceptances when they shouldn't have?
