Thread: This the story of one of the most remarkable cases in U.S. history, and you’ve probably never heard of it. The story of what the U.S. government did to Ezell Gilbert is important because it explains how our legal system works as well as any case I have ever seen. (1)

Right now there are people caged pretrial in PG County, MD, who have been *locked up longer than they could legally be sentenced* if convicted. Waiting for day in court. Prosecutors acknowledge this. But won’t consent to their release. This is cruel. This is unconstitutional.

Hate to be a cancel culture warrior, but I kinda’ think that if you once wrote a book praising Hitler, and claimed black people have small brains, and worked for the KKK, you shouldn’t get to decide who goes to prison. waok.radio.com/articles/featu…

In Tennessee, any felony conviction takes away your right to vote.

NEW: The Tennessee General Assembly has approved wide-ranging legislation to crack down on protesters, now making it a felony (up to 6 years in prison) to set up a tent overnight outside the Capitol. Protesters have done so for 2 months now. tennessean.com/story/news/pol…

Without Section 230 there would be virtually no permissible third-party content (as in, your content) permitted on the internet, which would mean there would be nothing to censor, so sure, whatever

Now Facebook and Twitter are colluding to censor the President of the United States? This is absolutely outrageous and exactly why we need to repeal Section 230. Big Tech has become too powerful, and it’s time they are held accountable. foxnews.com/politics/faceb…

1.) It is always a great time to end qualified immunity. Making police responsible for their actions in civil court does not equal more murders. 2.) The homicide clearance rate in this country is extremely low — in Honolulu, for example, it’s 15%. That’s WITH QI!

Now is totally a great time to try to end qualified immunity, quoth the libertarian echo chamber. 🙄 wsj.com/articles/homic…

State-sanctioned White surpemacist domestic terrorism by a white supremacist system and president. The last four years has been an unfolding of just how deep the myth of progress in America is. Not to mention, look up the diversity statistics—and we think they serve us? Nah.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security is crafting plans to deploy about 150 federal agents to Chicago this week, the Chicago Tribune has learned, a move that would come amid growing controversy nationally about federal force being used in American cities. trib.al/pAZaBlS

When I answered the phone, the caller began by asking: “Is there a ProPublica Michigan?” She had a story to tell, about a teenage girl who was in juvenile detention for not doing her online schoolwork during the pandemic. The girl was her daughter.
