Just driven through Much Birch, south of Hereford. I didn’t see much birch. Then passed the pub, which is called the Axe and Cleaver. A cautionary tale. I feel @JohnFinnemore would appreciate

“The solution lies with giving a young person a trumpet. The solution lies with giving a young person a saxophone. When you do that you give them a dream, an aspiration and a goal.” We couldn’t agree more! Congratulations on your @BRITs win @EzraCollective 🎺

“This moment right here is because of the great youth clubs, the great teachers and the great schools that support young people playing music…” Ezra Collective: @BRITs Group of the year Thank you for all your support. EZ to the World 🌍

We need to be clearer about the difference between *scholarly*, *conservatoire* and *vocational* music degree courses and their distinct qualities. Unfortunately institutions are increasingly closing their scholarly music degrees. @timeshighered timeshighereducation.com/opinion/cardif…

Exempting military families from VAT on private school fees highlights just how unfair this tax truly is. Why should any working family be penalised for investing in their children's education? If it's wrong for one group, it's wrong for everyone.

EXCL - Military families will be exempt from VAT on private school fees They are expected to get extra cash to cover the tax hike thesun.co.uk/news/politics/…

Early arrival in glorious @SalisburyCath to practice on the Rolls Royce of organs in what, for me, is the jewel in the crown of cathedrals. What a treat. Looking forward to being joined by @Welly_Music Chapel Choir later on for evensong

Bittersweet day, returning to @Ely_Cathedral in glorious sunshine but to say goodbye to Richard. Bravi tutti to the musicians who produced a beautiful requiem mass (Faure, plus other treats). He would have loved it. Great to see old friends

There's been a fair bit of discussion about music A-level entries today, so I won't rush into analysing stats, but what bothers me again this year is that a far greater % of students get A*/A/B grades in maths than they do in music. I never got a satisfactory answer to this 1/2

It's impossible to view the postings of Farage, without utter revulsion. He masquerades as a " reasoned commentator" on what he claims to be a national crisis linked to immigrants while claiming he deplores any lawlessness. Then he hints at more lawlessness if his warnings are…

“It’s not that this approach gives power to the person, it never takes it away” (Rogers, 1978) Not a bad mindset which could well be adopted by a few world leaders…

What a way to top off an incredible academic year for the arts at Wellington College! The cast of ‘Master of the House’ performed brilliantly and did us all proud. Not only that, we were absolutely delighted that Matthew L won Best Actor for his role as Valjean in Les Misérables!

Could be prouder of this gang, or happier for Matt who deservedly won best male lead in a musical. What a year this production has given us. Wonderful also to hear the quality of musical theatre going on in schools. Bravi tutti

Our incredible Les Misérables cast is off to the National School Theatre Awards performing "Master of the House" after a "Best Production" nomination! Matt and Toby also masterminded the Master's Entrance video. Let's hope Mr Dahl and Mrs Henderson don't steal the show this time!

Another axe blow. Not only for music in the present but especially for the future of it. Wales seems to be suffering particularly badly at the moment.

The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama told its staff today that it is axeing its junior department at the end of this term. Almost 200 children study there on saturdays. That will all stop in July. This is not rich kids playing expensive instruments. One of them texted...
