writing a thesis on T Paine’s final years in America and it is horrifying how cruel this country treated him. moments include: - being heckled at on streets - denied compensation from congress - abandoned by friends - denied the right to vote - vile untrue propaganda after death
the way the popular sentiment for democracy that was spread by thomas paine was co-opted by the american slave-owning plutocrats to install an anti-democratic system that protected the interests of wealthy elites and then 250 years went by
ive been reading common sense by thomas paine
i want to rebrand this because i’m tired of the supreme court it’s so boring watching institutions crumble like ok whatever sure just roll over to fascism and delegitimize your existence YAWNNN
the supreme court is holding oral arguments today in louisiana v. callais. the court could strike down sec 2 of the VRA, which stops states from unfairly diluting minority populations into different congressional districts. if that happens the gop likely wins the house in 2026.
what more is there to say at this point
Trump to generals: "America is under invasion from within. We're under invasion from within. No different than a foreign enemy, but more difficult in any ways because they don't wear uniforms. At least when they're wearing a uniform you can take them out."
basically the state of things (2025)
Student Protests (1960s-)
when you ask the supreme court to enforce a law related to the executive branch in 2025
the reason i havent been posting is because there’s no joy in this anymore. nothing is funny idk
eventually you realize that much of the “rigorous legal aspects” in american case law are some of the most absurd and backwards arguments ever constructed to justify abhorrent actions and then it kind of loses any charm
I like how you really dig into the rigorous legal aspects in your "simplifications".
replace some faces, names, and adjectives and it’s 2025
