UPS hikes fuel surcharge for the 11th time in 2 years and will become effective on 1/5. As a reminder, fuel surcharge is no longer directly correlated with the cost of fuel.
Freight discounts are only a part of the equation when it comes to negotiating with UPS and FedEx. Surcharges can easily account for 30-50% of your total invoice, this is usually where we see the biggest delta to market in shipper contracts.

UPS and FedEx reps are very good at convincing shippers they’re getting the best deal possible for their spec, if something seems too good to be true - it is, you’re paying for it somewhere. Example? If surcharges are waived, you’re paying for it in your freight discounts.
