I am going to paraphrase @BDLimm. The housing problems caused by luxury development will not be solved by more luxury development.
Ithaca is now the FOURTH City to opt into #GoodCause -- under the strongest terms possible, covering nearly every Ithaca renter. @GovKathyHochul tried to leave upstate out. But upstate tenants are organized. We're winning the protections we deserve.
🎉WE PASSED GOOD CAUSE! Tenants all over ithaca organized for years for the is victory, elected ITU members, flipped our council, and built a city run BY tenants FOR tenants. Special thanks to our endorsees in office Kayla Matos and Phoebe Brown!
Rochester introduced #GoodCause last month and could become the BIGGEST UPSTATE CITY with the protections by September. @RocTenantUnion + their elected allies are fighting HARD to make sure #ROC opts in and covers as many renters as possible. x.com/marylupienroc/…
Albany, Kingston, Poughkeepsie, & now Ithaca have approved the strongest possible Good Cause Eviction Protections. #Roc has the opportunity to do the same. I am committed to safeguarding tenants and tackling our housing crisis head-on with stronger protections than were drafted.
Real estate spent BIG to try to take out tenant champions. But tenants mobilized from Rochester to Queens to defend elected officials fighting to expand tenants' rights. We protected all of our incumbents -- and picked up two seats along the way. Tenant power is here to stay.
.@Gonzalez4NY has been a fierce advocate for climate action, affordable housing, and equitable access to technology. We're thrilled to send her back to the State Senate!
Now, as I head to Albany with a mandate to fight for affordable housing, universal childcare, a Green NY and the democratic socialist future we need to thrive, I want you to know—our movement is only getting started. Workers deserve it all, and I will never, ever settle for less.
how big of a win was this? 🌹claire won sunnyside, ridgewood, LIC by double-digits 🌹she got a 1 vote plurality in woodside's berkeley towers/parc plaza and even came within 9 votes of a plurality in *maspeth* 🌹she outperformed juan's 2022 performance in every neighborhood
in this business, this is what we call a blowout.
I'm so incredibly proud of @eonforassembly. The 4 Horsemen of NY politics, Real Estate, Wall Street, Charter School PACs, and AIPAC, spent hundreds of thousands of $$$ in AD56 in order to eke out a victory by ≈400 votes. They are terrified of our movement. And they should be.
WaterBottle, a worker-owned cooperative,... includes property management and construction service and spreads control among its employees, owns 22 properties. It’s restoring dilapidated buildings and renting them out with first dibs offered to the workers. thebaltimorebanner.com/community/hous…
Landlord lies! IMPROVEMENTS are different than REPAIRS. Landlords won't need lots of $ if they keep the apartments in good repair throughout a long term tenancy. There is an incentive to withhold repairs for decades and add its cost to an IAI to raise rent if caps are ⬆️
Multiple sources confirm that the general framework of the IAI cap changes are: - $30k for most apartments - $50k for units vacated by longtime tenants (25+ years) There are more specifics re: building size, recently vacated units, but this is the broad strokes
NEW: “Lawmakers must stand up to the real estate industry’s rapacious efforts to pad their own pockets, and reject efforts to recreate the pre-2019 dynamics that put a target on the backs of rent stabilized tenants. "It's time for state leaders to choose a side." Our statement.
The housing profiteers have been able to sway elected officials with their smooth rhetoric. But they can afford to rent their vacant apartments. They'd just rather taxpayers foot the bill. And elected officials are falling for it. Tell them no! No rollbacks to the HSTPA!
No housing package without #goodcause. No developer tax breaks without strong union wages. REBNY can whine and obfuscate all they want, but these are the facts. Either get with the program or get out of the way.
The real estate industry is holding our state hostage. It’s clear that no housing package will pass without #GoodCause Eviction — so they’d prefer to see no housing package pass at all. Our statement on ongoing housing negotiations:
Absolutely NOT! ✖️IAI cap increase ✖️negligent landlord bailout fund ✖️vacancy reset bill Yes! ✅Tenant controlled housing ✅State data on warehousing Landlords have enough of our money! Tell your electeds no to increasing their profits at our expense!
To win Good Cause, TOPA, and social housing, we need socialists in Albany! Tomorrow, @nycDSA Green Social Housing campaign is co-hosting a Housing Justice Petitioning Day to get @marcelaforny on the ballot! Join us at 12pm, 44th St and 6th Ave. RSVP: bit.ly/marcela4housing

Want to own your NYC apartment? This nonprofit is helping renters buy their units. buff.ly/3TnW24P
Why did landlords allow buildings to fall into disrepair? Landlord profits increased for 20 years straight, but now they say they can't repair buildings. The fact is they profited of tenants living in terrible conditions and now want a government handout for doing so.
VICTORY: East New York CLT is taking back the block!! After years of tireless organizing from 248 Arlington tenants, we’ve purchased their building, our first property, in record time. It won’t stop here! gothamist.com/news/want-to-o…
