This! You can’t fake being a good visual designer (as it takes years of reps). But you can fake UX skills pretty easy.
Most designers don't want to hear this: UI takes 10x longer to master than UX. You can learn research & user flows in months. But visual design? That's years of reps.
Always glad I got reps in for IRL client meetings and workshops before 2020. Having the experience of facilitating in person makes everything digital so much easier.
The one thing that separates great designers from good is how much they care. That's it. If you care enough, you don’t stop until your work meets your (usually brutally high) internal standards for excellence.
