Most people only see the end product of hard work and attribute it to luck or lineage, simply because they can't work hard persistently. Hidden behind every success is the daily grind -tedious, notoriously unforgiving. So, is success really worth the effort and pain? Hell, yeah!

Most of the days in academia is like this...Everyday need not be exciting!

Most people think the hard part is getting started. The hard part is continuing to do the work when the excitement wears off and the grind feels hopeless.

It was a thrill to read the history of Muthuswami Dikshitar in English/Sanskrit by V.Raghavan. Thanks to @ypravanan for getting this book for me. Reading this while listening to the specific kritis made it a wonderful Saturday read!!! Truly a creative personality with words!

You just won a 2-week, all-expenses-paid vacation. But there’s a catch: you have to stay within one region the whole time. What are you picking?

May sound like mumbo jumbo, but when you write overlooking an expansive space your creative juices flow. I too have a window facing me, but not to the outside but to the inside of the building and I do people watching inadvertently.

High quality research usually follows a new idea. And great ideas need not happen only during office hours.

This is a work of art. These 10 rules for building and maintaining scientific reputation should be compulsory reading for all trainees. Good refresher for seniors too. journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…

Zipcode/pincode bias is a known fact...have faced it for the last 10years.

I have my own experience. Same paper, different affiliations. With my PhD affiliation (UK): 3–4 submissions, no desk rejections. With my current affiliation (Indonesia) multiple desk rejections, even from lower-ranked journals. Finally manage to publish it, after 12 attempts.

It's wild how quickly we consider the reliable production of food as a trivial solved problem, especially as silicon technologies advance. Agriculture is by no means solved, by no means trivial, and by no means secure. All the longevity hype means nothing if we don't have food.

What on earth is a scientific reputation anyway? Not coming up with a satisfactory answer, we turned to a source of endless brainpower—students and other editors. journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…
