Amazed to find that I'm now part of a TV tradition. @Lucy_Worsley's Christmas Carol Odyssey delve into the background of a number of loved carols is back on BBC4 on Christmas Eve at 10.40pm. (One or two friends say they now regard it as a required part of Christmas!)

Details of the talk that I will be giving at Bletchingley, Surrey on July 30th about Lucy Broadwood, folksong collector, researcher, composer, singer, pianist ... the list is long. Tickets still available billetto.co.uk/e/the-lost-lad…

A really enjoyable night in Aldershot tonight. Went to see @alfiemoore live on stage at last after missing out in Feb due to ill health. Had a great time. Thanks Alfie.

Looking forward to giving another talk on the life and work of Lucy Broadwood, folksong collector, researcher, composer, and linchpin of the folksong collecting movement at the turn of the 19th/20th century, in Surrey at the end of July. Watch this space.

Went to see @themindmangler this afternoon. Saw it in Guildford (2023) and cried with laughter. Just as funny 2nd time around. Friend seeing it for 1st time was bowled over. Inspired improv, laugh out loud funny, plus "how the hell" magic. Go see it.

Proud to be part of the @stayathomechoir after nearly 4 years. It's been a great journey. The live concert stream tonight was enjoyable, and the video of Bach's Komm Jesu Komm made the work worthwhile. Go us! Congrats @Tori_Longdon & @jamiewdwright . Roll on whatever 2024 offers.

Heywood Sumner was a Victorian polymath with many facets, Folksong collecting being just one. I've included details of him in more than one presentation in the last 20 years... but learned one or two new things from Jon and Eliza's presentation. Go listen!

Well this all seemed to come together ok :-) We'll get it up on a podcast platform at some point but if you want to listen straight away it's just £3 to subscribe at undertheleaves.co.uk. Thanks to @SurreySinger, Steve Roud and @TheEFDSS for their help with the research 🙏

The talk "The Lost Lady Found:The Life and Work of Lucy Broadwood" which I gave to the Surrey Record Society members after their AGM on 3 July seemed to be well received. Some v. appreciative comments next day re the pitch being just right for those there. Happy about that 😀

Have just seen the Guardian article about the imminent departure of @RevRichardColes from my Saturday mornings - they won't be the same. You deserved better, and at the very least a decent sendoff, Thanks for your input to my weekends. theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2…

We must make so much fuss that the BBC has to retreat. We had the same battle in the 1980s; there were - in the end - serious concessions. Sadly the trend is relentlessly downwards: in the ACE, in the BBC and in Government. We simply have to keep fighting on until wisdom returns.

Officers are on scene and dealing with activists who have climbed the gantry at Junction 8 on the M25. The road has been closed anti-clockwise.
