First, Chad Greene was a teacher. Then, he was a writer. Now, he’s a teacher of writing.

This piece published on the HMU Blog today is special for me, as it is illustrated by a couple #comics I made -- including a two-page spread in which I participate in the "Great Conversation" by asking Seneca the Younger for a piece of "ancient advice." hmu.edu/classics-and-c…

Throwback Thursday’s old comic: Another installment from my first attempt at a strip twenty years ago, BLACK COMEDY. Let’s call this one “Three Juliets.” “#comics
Wednesday’s new comic, on Saturday: “The Masked Professor Presents: Drawn Together.” This is a foldable first-day-of-class activity, in which students create a “superhero identity” for the semester. #comics #superhero
Today’s old comic: In the tiniest of tributes to #JohnRomitaSr , I am sharing these two pages explaining how the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN newspaper strips he drew first introduced me to #comics and inspired me to write. Can’t thank him enough for that. RIP.
To celebrate the end of eight weeks working my way through François Rabelais' sixteenth-century satire GARGANTUA AND PANTAGRUEL, I've written a blog inspired by the Virgilian lots the characters cast in Book 3. hmu.edu/hmu-blog/2023/… #GreatBooks #Classics
Throwback Thursday’s old comic: “The Last Word,” published back in 2003 by a little local newspaper that no longer exists. Meant to be the first installment in a strip titled “Black Comedy,” starring a character called Billy Black. #comics
Wednesday’s new comic: “One Workday in Four Beverages.” Thanks for the inspiration, @prof_lovebold. #comics
Wednesdays new comic: A third installment of “The Masked Professor Presents.” Mastered the old trick of turning a single sheet into an eight-page #minicomic with only one cut and a handful of folds. Here, I suggest a structure for minicomic content for my students to try. #comics
Wednesday’s new comics: My first two attempts at educational comics that are in the spirit of “seminars,” not “lectures” - a minimum of talking-head panels for the teacher and a maximum of space for students’ active contributions to our learning. #comics #socialconstructivist
Wednesday’s new comic: Remembering the second “Chad-tastrophe” of November 2000 in “Chad-Dendum 2: ‘Chad-jectives.’” #comics #creativenonfiction
Thanks to HMU for publishing my review of the Penguin Classics Marvel Collection BLACK PANTHER, "From a Comic Book Hidden Under Desks to a Trade Paperback Displayed on Desks," in which I explore the materiality of a "classic." #comics #BlackPanther hmu.edu/hmu-blog/2023/…
Wednesday’s new comic: Remembering the first “Chad-tastrophe” that made November 2000 the worst time in human history to have been a “Chad.” This is “Chad-dendum 1: ‘The Chad.’” #comics #creativenonfiction
Wednesday’s new comic: “Chad-denda,” inspired by two comments on “The Chad Name Story” that reminded me why November 2000 was the worst time in human history to be a “Chad.” #comics
Wednesday’s new comic: The second part of “The Chad Name Story,” inspired by Pekar and Crumb’s “The Harvey Pekar Name Story.” #comics #creativenonfiction
New #comics come out on Wednesdays, so -- for a few weeks, at least -- I plan to post a new one of my own then. This is inspired by "The Harvey Pekar Name Story," written by Harvey Pekar and drawn by Robert Crumb. It's meant to be an example for my #creativenonfiction students.
As an early birthday present to myself, went to the local copy shop to make my Blue Butterfly minicomic a nerdy reality. Created a coloring-book version, a zine version, a drawing-and-coloring sheet, and a make-your-own-mask kit. 🦋 #minicomic #comics
A week after I started pencilling the covers for my minicomic for my class with @jay_olinger at @PortlandCC, I finished inking the interior pages. Right before I had to pick up the kids on Friday afternoon. Whew!
