There was a momentary pause, but then he sighed and dragged a hand through his hair, “I made the mistake of believing someone was fine, when they weren’t. And she got hurt.”
“No, you really don’t.” Both for his sake and the sake of others, he shouldn’t turn out to be yet another hero who is only in it for themselves. “And why do you struggle with such an outlook?”
His brow knit, “well, I don’t want to be any of those. Though I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t struggle with that outlook sometimes.” He still blamed himself for Eri; gullibly handing that terrified little girl to her captors was something he would never forgive himself for.
“A hypocrite? A fake? A deceiver…” Needed help? Him? Pfft. Like this so called ‘hero’ was going to help someone like him.
“What kinda hero would I be if I ignored someone that needed help?”
“Why would you be worried about me? I’m fine…” What was with this fellow? He wore a confident smile like of All Might. Was it even real or just a facade to put others at ease? Perhaps both?
“Mmm, you’re not wrong.” He shrugged his broad shoulders, that smile never faltered, yet softened as they spoke. “But you’re the one I’m worried about right now.”
“Yeah, I’m not happy, but…” Well shit, he did have a point there. He silenced his tongue, trying to think of another thing to say. “…but isn’t everyone in some sort of pain? Whether it be physical, psychological, and or both?” He didn’t want to admit he could be wrong.
“You are my friend.”
He watched the kid, studied his face and listened to the harsh cut of his tone. “Well, you don’t seem… happy.” Was his gentle observation, “an unhappy person is someone who’s feeling some kind of hurt. Aren’t they?”
So? I’m sure everyone has had it rough in their lives? How does that make you assume that I was hurt? Huh?
No, you just seem like you’ve had it rough.

So everyone else’s smiles don’t matter, is that it? Yeah, ok. MAKE BETTER JOKES OR DO NOT TELL THEM
