Cultural infrastructure—sports facilities, theatres, art galleries, music halls— are not means to an end. They are one of the ends of development. The more you have, the more developed you are as a society.

What is the economic value of building stadiums? Why didn't Kibaki focus on stadiums like Talanta when he was president, yet he was the best African economist of his time? 🤔

As a fan of Ngara, a big reason why it will never be a serious art hub na a forever nightclub district ni it skipped the integral steps that NY went through & skipped to no 3; production by the pioneers, building infrastructure na the necessary validation & finally, consumption.

Ngara imekuwa 'creative hub' with little significant cultural output 😭😭. Look at what NYC creatives turned Brooklyn into and its current global significance in global art. Ngara could've been that for us lakini sasa ni umc kids wanacosplay as brand owners tu😭

The cosplay part brings about an argument for the BOBO (Bourgeois Bohemians) but the fact that hata areas like kina Kibera, Mathare etc with some artsy elements bado end up as ‘brand owners’ shows the issue ni sth ‘structural’ i.e complete absence of art mkt & speculative capital

I haven't had milk tea since primary school. I find it disgusting. I can't stand butter either and I hate the smell of cheese. Ata Mala ilianza kuniboo. Only dairy I can enjoy is yoghurt, banana/strawberry milk shakes and marinating greens.
