This monstrous branchy, burred, tree stands in Kilmory Castle of Argyll and Bute. It's the Scottish champion Japanese Red Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica var. sinensis) with an impressive girth of 802cm (at 1m height) and stands 27.4m tall. Credit: Alan Hunton #thicktrunktuesday

#ThickTrunkTuesday Today's Thick Trunk is the UK girth champion Silver fir (Abies alba). Known as 'The Monster' with four large trunks forming a combined girth of 977cm. It was one of 70 trees chosen to be part of 'The Queen's Green Canopy' in 2022.
