Ever wondered what the Town of York (now @cityoftoronto) looked like in the early 19th century? In 1977, David Pepper built this intricate scale model depicting York in 1825, from Caroline St. (now Sherbourne) west to Church St. and from Palace St. (now Front) north to Adelaide.
Kelly Richardson as Miss Kelly, Romper Room on CHEX TV Peterborough. On this day you left us, but many beautiful memories remain. RIP ❤️
Remembering those that are gone now and how they fought for peace. Lest we forget. We need peace on earth now.
On this day in 1915, John McCrae wrote his famous poem “In Flanders Fields”. It was written by McCrae after he presided over the funeral of a friend and fellow soldier during the First World War. #LestWeForget
"If we can now build expressways through protected Greenbelts, then there's no green space in Canada that's safe." Help save the Greenbelt, it’s wildlife and the top tier farmland within: ow.ly/tyCC50Rli8U #StopHWY413 #HandsOffTheGreenbelt #onpoli
In a new episode of the @ChamplainSoc Witness to Yesterday podcast Greg Marchildon talks to Ronald F. Williamson about his book, The History and Archaeology of the Iroquois du Nord. Listen @ bit.ly/WTYm324 #twitterstorians @uOttawaPress @MuseOntArch @CanMusHistory
More changes to Thorncliffe Park and the Don Valley. Such a terrible loss of trees, parkland, and history. Thank you Rudy Limeback @rudydotca for documenting this.
#ThenAndNow Thorncliffe Ski Jump its heyday was in the 1930s, and it was gone by the 1950s today you can easily see where it was, because the side of the ravine has been denuded for the new Ontario Line bridge
We have learned from Helen Mills @HMMLostRivers about @cityoftoronto watersheds and neighbourhood history for 30 years. Will Toronto finally daylight our watersheds? Oh yes please! There are so many benefits to this. #Toronto #watersheds
Impressive! @cityoftoronto considering "daylighting" buried watersheds. Lavender Creek could use a lot of love. Removing cement banks is mentioned. Is there hope for Black Creek? Maybe! Thank you Helen Mills for your hard work and wisdom! @HMMLostRivers cbc.ca/news/canada/to…
This is a Canadian Heritage River. Protect it!
Torontonians do not seem to understand how badly the #HWY413 will effect them. More flooding from the Humber River effects all neighbourhoods around it. Homes & roads will be flooded again. Remember the 2018, 2013 floods how about Hurricane Hazel? Stop Hwy 413!
Preserving and learning from our history is very important. Old architecture around the world is what attracts tourism and enhances the economy. Protect #Ontario heritage! #Toronto thestar.com/opinion/editor…
