Polanski's whole schtick is saying dumb shit, have people explain why it's dumb, and then quote tweeting how they don't really have an argument and are rattled. You can't do that for 4 years.

The country wants a wealth tax on assets. They're panicking because "won't the rich just leave" has been utterly debunked. They've got no actual argument. Join.greenparty.org.uk

Well I, at least, am heartened to see strong relations between elected officials from Northern Britain and Southern Ireland. Important we bring the British Isles together.

This morning, President Catherine Connolly received Mr. John Swinney @ScotGovFM, First Minister of Scotland on a courtesy call. Mr. Swinney is the first foreign head of government received by President Connolly at Áras an Uachtaráin.

We talk about inequality as if it suddenly spiked. It hasn’t. What’s actually shifted is that growth has collapsed, which means everyone feels poorer.

Here's that spiralling wealth inequality everyone is talking about. It's so flat, you could ice-skate on it.

The CPRE have attacked the Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce report in their Budget response. They are so wrong. There is no form of clean power that uses land than nuclear. If you want to protect rural England, nuclear is the best option.

Capping pension salary sacrifice at £2k when there’s an impending pensions crisis is just insane and a direct attack on Nick, 30 ans. Meanwhile current pensioners get above-inflation benefits rises.

Another remarkable story uncovered by @BritainRemade. A ground-floor flat is facing a £15,000 bill to replace a rotten window because the building is tall enough that every part of it is categorised as 'high-risk', generating a requirement to seek permission from the notorious…

Chris is facing a bill of more than £15,000 to replace a couple of windows. But only £5k of that is for the actual windows. The other £10k is fees to navigate the ridiculous planning obstacles Westminster Council and the Building Safety Regulator put in his way.

🚨 NEW: The Government is set to scrap trial by jury for most cases Only murder, rape, manslaughter and a few public interest cases will go to a jury, while all other cases will be decided by a single judge [@thetimes]

Ben is right. At one point during the construction of HS2 two different parts of the British state tried to sue each other to halt construction/keep it going. The only reason it didn't cost us hundreds of millions is that the judge told them not to be so bloody childish.

Any time that something like the bat tunnel gets raised as a problem with the UK's infrastructure planning process, you will be told that it is an outlier. But it isn't. I see examples like this every day. HPC's fish return system cost us SIX bat tunnels!

Kid: coffee wakes you up MMTer: ACTUALLY caffeine competitively inhibits adenosine receptors, reducing inhibitory neurotransmission and affecting noradrenergic pathways. So really it stops you being sleepy! Kid: ...huh? Mainstream economist: yeah coffee basically wakes you up

When I talk to MMT fans in the UK I find that they like it because it does something really common. It takes something simple and makes it more complicated so that they feel clever and feel like they have a special insiders view of things.

The nuclear Taskforce report dropped today. It's a MASSIVE piece of work setting out everything the Government needs to do to fix nuclear. Here's a thread of the best reactions. First mine (& @BritishProgress)

BRITAIN'S CHANCE TO FIX NUCLEAR POWER Today the Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce set out its 47 recommendations for how Britain can once again be a world leader in nuclear power. Britain split the atom, built the world’s first commercial nuclear power and for years was powered by…
