Melbourne came to us earlier this week to be evaluated for a prostate tumor. Here he is intently observing his own ultrasound!

You won’t want to miss this! Register today: bit.ly/4mZymS2 David Gerber, M.D., lung cancer medical oncologist and Co-Director of Education and Training, will be presenting at our Oncology Year in Review CME on Nov. 15: “Big Picture: What’s New in Oncology This Year.”

🧬 This week’s #UTSWCancerBio #WIP: Roger Liang (Zhu & DeBerardinis Labs) Zonal Metabolic Perturbations & Liver Tumorigenesis How spatial gene expression & glycogen metabolism drive liver disease + tumor formation. ⚡️Every Friday with WIP Seminar! #CancerResearch #LiverDisease

UT Southwestern's Liver Tumor Program has been named an NCI Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) and awarded a $12 million grant to accelerate discoveries in liver cancer treatment and prevention. utsouthwestern.edu/newsroom/artic…
Congratulations to Beth Griesel from the Sparling Group at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences to the publication of her work on CRISPLD2, a novel insulin-sensitizing adipokine that can affect adipocyte size! Increasing CRISPLD2 expression from adiposity can decrease…

📢 The Cancer Biology #Retreat is just 8 weeks away! 🗓️ Abstract deadline: Sept 9 📍 Crowne Plaza 🎤 Keynote: Dr. Agnel Sfeir (MSKCC) 🌟 Talks & Poster Sessions (faculty judged) Don’t miss this chance to showcase your research & connect with peers! #CancerResearch #UTSW #CanBio
Meet Callie, a certified therapy dog who brings comfort, joy, and plenty of outfits to patients and staff in our department, across UT Southwestern, and throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area! #NationalDogDay 📖🐕🦺: bit.ly/3HFlq4v

We’re proud to partner with @EarlYoungsTeam to raise awareness about the need for bone marrow and blood stem cell donors. Stop by one of our locations on Sept. 17 to swab your cheek and join the donor registry! Learn more about Earl Young’s Team: bit.ly/3HHbx6f.

Congratulations to Dr. Tuoqi Wu, has been named a #Cancer Research Institute (CRI) Lloyd J. #Old_STAR ! The award marks the first time a UT Southwestern faculty member has received this recognition!🎊🎉 utsouthwestern.edu/ctplus/honors-…
📚✨ Welcome back, Cancer Biology community! A new semester means new science, fresh ideas, and the return of WIPS 🔬 Our first session kicks off today at 2:00 PM in NL3.120. Let’s make this year full of learning, collaboration, and discovery! 💡🧬 #CancerBiology #GradSchoolLife
Congrats to Justin Engel (@JustinEngel17) on a wonderful PhD defense – the first student to graduate from our lab! We look forward to seeing more transformative science from you in the future! @UTSWCancerBio @UTSWGradSchool

🚨 Breakthrough in #GeneEditing! Congrats to Yehui Sun, winner of the 2025 Ida M. Green Award 🎉 Her pioneering work uses lipid nanoparticles + SORT delivery to correct faulty genes in 70% of lung stem cells—lasting nearly 2 years. A potential one-time treatment for CF!

The pearl necklace model of transcriptional silencing—developed in collaboration with Diego Castrillon’s team—explains a phenomenon observed in > 80% of human endometrial cancers. The study is now published in a peer reviewed journal. jci.org/articles/view/…

Today we conducted a simulation on our patient, Ginger, for HIFU therapy! HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-invasive image-guided therapy technique that uses focused sound waves to destroy targeted tissue—commonly used for tumors, as well as other conditions.

New work from the lab: Identification of CNOT1-CCR4-NOT as a suppressor of 53BP1-p53-p21 signaling @CellReports. Congratulations to first author Antonio Galarreta and to all co-authors. cell.com/cell-reports/f…. #Microscopy #RNAiScreen #Condensates
