Put your participants at ease at the beginning of a test. Ask some simple questions about their internet usage and habits.
Standard web cams are no good for mobile device usability testing. Consider a more high end spec camera: http://www.lumenera.com/
Ensure the test participants don't know what is being tested in advance. They will very often 'practice'. This can spoil the test results.
Always test your technical setup the day before your user tests. Do a test recording and check the visuals and audio in the output file. #ux
Consider getting think alouds after the test instead of during the test. It's less disruptive to behaviour, but more time consuming. #UX
Very cool UX Stencil from @ToddZazelenchuk http://tinyurl.com/c4hsxk We use some of it for our profile pic. Thanks to all at @userfocus too
Don't ask participants leading questions. This is easier to do if you are unbiased towards whats being tested. Ask open ended questions.
If your participant profile is quite unspecific, consider guerrilla recruitment, out on the street, and save on expensive recruitment costs.
No user testing will give you no insight. Always do whatever amount of testing budget and time will allow for, even if its only 5 minutes!
