This whole clip is amazing, from a linguist’s point of view. So much... er... substance, from an incredible woman!

Similar scenarios are apparent all over the world, of course. And no, it's not about merit, or skills, or talent, or effort. There can be no sustainable development until we choose to fix this.
A platinum miner in South Africa will have to work 93 years to earn what the CEO of his company will get as bonus in one year. This is inequality. @Winnie_Byanyima #EDD19
I love the way this talks about “our commitment to engaging with people who will help us see what’s possible” (and our role in helping others see that as well). Exactly my experience at #ITIConf19 and other #xl8 events. It’s vital to see what others have achieved in our field!
Leaving Sheffield after an inspiring #ITIconf19. I head home refreshed, with plenty of ideas to keep upping my game as a translator. I love working on my own, but it’s face-to-face interaction with colleagues that really helps me grow. I’m very glad I got out of my cave! #xl8
I’d interpret “effortless” as a perfect mix of attainable, enjoyable and rewarding, and to that extent I agree with the person who said it. But hard work shines through in everything KT ever writes and in her reading of our career. That’s what makes her special for so many of us.
A fellow freelancer told me today that I make this career look effortless. The compliment is nice but I thought it was a bit ridiculous. I work very hard. And as others have said before me, the harder I work, the luckier I get.
After kicking myself for missing Cardiff 2017, I am now all set to go to @ConferenceITI in Sheffield. Plane ticket, hotel and conference registration all sorted out. Delighted!
“An industrialist can profit mightily by building jobs that can be done by interchangeable workers at the lowest possible skill and pay. But that doesn’t mean you need to sign up to be one of those interchangeable cogs.” Those of us who have a choice should choose well.
Substitute “damn” every time you’re inclined to write “very.” Your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be. (Mark Twain)

Moito
Some Latin borrowings are almost the same in English and French, but not quite: statu quo/status quo, nec plus ultra/ne plus ultra.
Oxfam has reached more than 185,000 people affected by the Rohingya crisis. Our staff are building clean water systems and toilets, and providing food vouchers. This vital work continues.
Terrific post on the 1% gathering in Davos this week, by @BrankoMilan "They are loath to pay a living wage, but they will fund a philharmonic orchestra. They will ban unions, but they will organize a workshop on transparency in government." glineq.blogspot.co.uk/2018/01/dutifu…
Where French talks about conference “éditions” (1re/2e/3e/etc.), English tends to say 1st/2nd/3rd/etc. + conf. name and drop the notion of edition.
#traduccionsiempredecalidad
