Politicians should fight for interventions to improve tenants’ conditions and promote social housing growth. It’s both good policy and good politics. jacobin.com/2024/08/rent-c…
In America, if you're too poor to even have a home, the governor will send police after you and personally steal what little you have left.

“It’s easier to force people out of the city than it is to figure out how to house them. But it’s our leaders’ jobs to solve the problems that lead to tents on our streets, not to throw them away & let unhoused people die from exposure.” allianceforhousingjustice.org/post/grants-pa…
You didn’t provide the needed affordable housing. You’re choosing political expediency over real solutions. That’s not leadership, it’s cowardice. This will only worsen homelessness.
No more excuses. We’ve provided the time. We’ve provided the funds. Now it’s time for locals to do their job.
Harris should pick up where Biden left off. It would be a mistake for the party to moderate on policy, to move away from commitments like this that matter to millions. The rent is too damn high and Donald Trump is a slumlord. Use that and fight hard for the people.
Will be interesting to see if Harris endorses major SCOTUS overhaul, 5% rent caps, and eliminating medical debt — 3 policies Biden embraced only as his campaign came under its most severe crisis yet
Biden out. Whoever contends for the candidacy should study the moves he's made recently, including the rent cap announcement. The cynical (and true) take is these commitments came from a place of desperation. Also true: good policy is good politics. Don't back down, push further.
This is rich coming from @jayparsons who, for 15 years, worked for RealPage, the disgraced rent-setting software company under investigation by the DOJ. Industry sycophants portray themselves as "neutral experts" when they're actually perpetrators. Tag me next time, Jay 💛
One issue with some reporting on rent control is false equivalence -- trying to be "fair" by putting activist opinions on par with impartial experts. It's like putting RFK Jr's opinions opposing vaccines on par with doctors encouraging vaccines.

“Listen… The Idea that people’s rents go up more than 5% each year? Folks, that’s a load of malarkey.” This is how I’m choosing to hear it. I am not taking questions at this time.
BREAKING: The Lancet has just published this article "conservatively" estimating that the death toll in the Gaza genocide could be 186,000 people or more. That's 8% of the population, obliterated. These are apocalyptic figures. thelancet.com/journals/lance…
biden ending his speech with "i dissent" is a perfect encapsulation of his approach to the court—he sees himself as akin to a dissenting justice who only has the power to complain, rather than a politician with the ability to do—or even try to do—something about the court
❗️The Supreme Court just ruled to make it easier to jail or fine unhoused people for sleeping outside, even when adequate shelter or housing isn’t available. This will only make homelessness worse. Housing - not tickets, jail, or fines - ends homelessness.
Criminalizing homelessness won’t solve the crisis. Keeping rents low + housing our homeless neighbors will. This SCOTUS decision is cruel. But our fight for homes for all continues.
Evictions are now at their highest point since 2018. Without strong renter protections, more Californians will find themselves without housing and could end up on the street. We need #rentcontrol and just cause eviction protections! sfchronicle.com/california/art…
