Man: "I made you an apple pie! Here." <hands you a bowl of ice cream> You: "..." If you tell them that ice cream is not an apple pie, you know they will call you a gate-keeping pie purist, and others will gang up to shout you down.
This was my tenth(!) year building 25 days of puzzles for #AdventOfCode. You can solve them all for free and in whatever programming language you like. I hope they help people become better programmers. 🌟 The first puzzle comes out in two hours: adventofcode.com

this is good :)
Rules? Life has "rules"? Now you tell me. This would have been so much simpler with "rules". Er… maybe not. This is complicated. Aaaarg. Enjoy the discovery of "life" with only 4 rules, in November.
If you run a #coderetreat for GDCR in two weeks you might consider using this #gameoflive poster github.com/marcoemrich/ga… (repo with OpenSource License and various formats). Thanks to Oliver Roth for providing an Accessibility Version!
OH: "Is it Agile or agile?" "Agile" is the formal name for any process that conforms to the values and principles of the Agile Manifesto (tweaked to encompass the things we've learned in the past 20 years, ofc). Lowercase "agile" is a word in the English language. They used to be…
Even if metrics show that tests have executed every branching logic in the code and ran every statement in the repo, it still means nothing. Because, what are those tests asserting? Do we know? Only mutation testing can tell us what’s going on.
In product management and dev, getting "better at estimating" is mind boggling to me. You had too much work on, so now the solution is to sit in a room and talk about why you think the work that you had to guess the length of took you longer than you thought? lol

I wish folks would think about the tradeoffs & incentives of team coding workflows instead of arguing about who to copy. tidyfirst.substack.com/p/thinking-abo… (P.S. Not a fan of being used for argument from authority. I know too much to trust me.)
"Why you're not using PRs in your project?" "Because we prefer to use CI/CD" "But but..." "Listen, @KentBeck invented CI, @davefarley77 invented CD. They both agree that PRs and feature branches are incompatible with CI/CD. What do you know that they don't?"
Please help spread the word. This FREE coding dojo session is in a few hours today (Sunday) at 9 AM IST (India Standard Time). A coding dojo is a fun, social way to learn, and was foundational to us stumbling upon the #MobProgramming / #SoftwareTeaming way of creating software.

Apparently we all now refer to humans as “resources” by default. I, for one, will not give in to this dehumanization even if I end up the last human standing in a sea of resources. Anyone with me? #WeAreHumansNotResources
Agile orgs don't have QA teams, by and large. As Deming pointed out, you cannot inspect quality into a product. It has to be there to begin with. A separate QA team is an antipattern. Cross-functional teams have all the skills necessary to deliver an idea, including QA.
Only the first layer of revelation. Realizing what that strong confidence makes possible, "Hmm, my tests could be more readable too." and "The tests having a strategy and a pattern to them. I never saw that before." Tests are code too.
