THEY AREN’T, HAVE NOT, NOR ARE PLANNING TO STRIKE

Wes has decided not to talk because HE doesn’t want to hear that his ‘plans’ won’t work

‘Top Down’ Wes won’t be told he is wrong

It’s simply outrageous that neither the Prime Minister nor the Health Secretary are willing to sit down with doctors to avert next week’s industrial action. Doctors don’t want it, patients don’t want it, why won’t the Prime Minister act to prevent it?

@williamcrawley on Talkback describes GPs as making some headlines with a temper tantrum and throwing toys out of the pram. GPs are used to rudeness and disrespect but really are we supposed to stay quiet and leave slowly like the dentists?

EXCL: Wes Streeting accused of taking “chaotic and incoherent approach” to reforming NHS which makes it unlikely government will hit targets, according to damning @instituteforgov report 👇 theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

Now we know why Rishi Sunak refuses to negotiate with NHS staff. He wants the strikes to go ahead, so he can blame doctors and nurses for his failure. #PMQs

How @wesstreeting and @SKinnock have taken the healthcare optimism and good will that came with a change of government and labour gaining office but then quickly turned it into the current awful state of affairs with dispute in all areas is incredible. Awful.

stuck with redundancy costs for a chaotic reorganisation he can't not finish, an unaffordable 8.5yr plan he can't start... ... a row with the doctors he doesn't know how to end and nowhere near the beginning of sorting out social care. myemail.constantcontact.com/Breath.html?so…

I’d focus in on big Trust CEOs A huge NHS resource & arguably little change in productivity/efficiency However that shines a light on the difficult challenges! Much easier to just blame GPs who accrue £0 deficit Why are this Govt losing grip on their promised NHS reforms? 🙈

Why is Wes comparing GPs to the PM? High earning GPs are the exception the median is the real measure of income & most GPs aren’t Partners. Over 700,000 people earn more than the PM but very few will earn as much as ex-PMs who in addition receive over £100k pa for life

Over the last decade, the population of England rose by 2,700,000. We needed 1,222 FTE EXTRA GPs to care for these people. During this time, the NHS in England actually lost 849 FTE family doctors. This is an outrage.

Ah yes, going to war with the bedrock of the NHS. Wonderful. I can’t actually recognise this government as a labour government. I genuinely wouldn’t give that as an answer, if I had a sudden memory loss and had to work it out from their words and actions

1 in 3 GP partners now earn more than the PM, so the BMA's claim they lack resources for online bookings simply isn't credible. We’ve backed general practice with £1.1bn extra funding & by employing 2,500 more GPs - because people deserve a modern service thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/…

This is extraordinary from a health sec. Threatening to wilfully sabotage care provision unless doctors stop exercising their lawful right to strike. From a labour government. No words.

For the NHS, it’s another escalation in a destructive cycle brought about by an inexperienced health secretary, advised by people who want us to make the same mistakes they made 20 years ago. It’s time for a change. myemail.constantcontact.com/Time-for-a-cha…

Haha! I am @BMA_GP! Stephen’s pragmatic in my experience, just reading a script I’m confident @wesstreeting well aware practices served >5 million online consults in August - the phoney war is Govt’s Total silence on how to safely manage infinite patient need - how convenient!

This isn't ageing well.

Terrific meeting with GPs across the country. Labour recognises that General Practice is in crisis and without people there’s no solving it. Really enjoyed the feedback from the frontline to inform our own thinking about how we fix the front door to the NHS.

Stephen you know as well as I do that GPs offered 6million online appts last month alone. This is about you not allowing us to divert patients to telephones for urgent needs when we are overwhelmed. This is broken promises from a Labour govt and I could not be more disappointed.

This is a bare faced lie. There will be no extra GP appointments, and if anything there will be fewer because of this imposed contract change. Forcing instant responses to trivial questions until 6:29pm means less GP time to see unwell and vulnerable people. #NHS

If @wesstreeting thinks GPs are stuck in 20thC, visit a hospital We are the science museum! ➡️Electronic records since 1991 ➡️Online triage ➡️Ambient scribes ➡️SMS ➡️Online bookings ➡️Electronic prescribing ➡️Online referrals ➡️Video consults DAYS after 1st lockdown…. 1/x

It’s a threat of dispute about safety. In your nightclub days you would have had the ability to control numbers if it got too crowded. That’s really what the issue is - if capacity hasn’t been invested in (it hasn’t) you need to safely manage flow. Tech can only do so much

The first I’d heard of this was today. The case is a desperately sad one. But continuity of care has been sacrificed on the altar of access GPs are both encouraged to refer early and criticised for over-referring. A straitened system makes more mistakes Remember this

Jess Brady should be alive today. But, despite 20 appointments with her GP practice, her cancer was missed until she went private. She died at 27 with stage 4 cancer. Today Jess’s Rule will mean that, after three strikes, GPs must review and rethink👇🏻 dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…

I live in a country where the starting pay for a Personal Doctor (GP) starts at €90,000 and tops out at €450,000 based on capitation. UK doctors must be remunerated appropriately
