🎄Beeston has a Christmas tree!🎄 Massive thanks to Beeston In bloom and Susan Murray in particular. Great to see the parks department helping lift it into place.
In the Civic Hall this morning to attended the IIIG Scrutiny Board. Pleased one of the topics was road maintenance and potholes in particular. Good to updated on trialling new equipment, while acknowledging there is a significant backlog of work to tackle. #Potholes
Good to attend the ISW Community Committee this evening. It was great to see applications to provide Council financial support for projects throughout the ward, including a couple for Cottingley; funding for CCTV in Dulverton Court and grassing over a dangerous concrete patch.
Mikey, from here in South Leeds, is standing for Youth Parliament. I'm fortunate enough to know him and he'll be a fantastic advocate for everyone, particularly young people with SEND. Between 11 and 18? Get involved in the voting! 🗳surveys.leeds.gov.uk/s/UKYPElection… 🗳
Great to join @paulwrayuk and @angelagabriel70 putting up poppies in Holbeck Cemetry. ➡️Join us at 1030 on Remembrance Sunday (9th of November). #WeWillRememberThem Thanks to Angela, who is the main organiser, and St. Lukes Church, Holbeck who will be leading the service.
I've been in Bradford today for West Yorkshire Pension Fund meetings - good to see the funding position is strong, which means memeber benefits are secure. 📸 I heard some lovely music, went down the corridor to see a Black History Month celebration - great to see!
Great to be at the @NSPCC online safety campaign event at the Civic Hall and receive an open letter from Leeds Youth Voice (part of @Child_Leeds). Really good to hear from young people. For more information follow the link 👇 wearechildfriendlyleeds.com/2024/06/12/lee…
Good to be at Cardinal Court TARA this lunchtime. Great to hear positive feedback for the Cleaner Neighborhoods Team who've been out picking up fly-tipping in our area. 📸 with Al Garthwaite
Great to be at the Play Sufficiency Partnerhip meeting this morning! I love play, but the boring topic of 'design principles' for greenspaces is a key discussion area to make play more possible! (Didn't take a picture, so here's something Gemini generated!)
Good news for people who need social care in Leeds. Always more to do and serious budget pressures (as those who regular followers of my social media will know!) - but really important to recognise success and hard work. news.leeds.gov.uk/news/new-repor…
🏘 I'm really pleased that the next phase of work to improve private rented sector housing here in Leeds will arrive in February 2026. 🏘 Last time, because of selective licensing, improvement work was carried out by landlords at around 1,430 homes. housingtoday.co.uk/news/leeds-cou…
The annual deleafing program has started! I love the 🍂 autumn leaves, but they do get slippery. If there are any specific streets with issues in the Beeston and Holbeck ward (which includes Cottingley), drop me an email [email protected] 👍
Great to be at St Lukes Tenants and Residents group this evening. 🚔 Really good to have the police in attendance, had a good hour with them talking about the challenges in our area 🚔
This can’t go on. The welfare, wellbeing and living standards of British people is being eroded in real-time by corporate profiteering. We need to nationalise utilities and prioritise need over greed.
"a quarter of the typical energy bill in 2024 was profit. That is equivalent to every household paying £416 a year so other people can grow rich." Excellent piece by Mathew Lawrence of the @Cmmonwealth thinktank How the government keeps you poorer theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Give your bin the right kind of scent👃 ! Did you know aftershave, perfume and even glass plug-in air freshener bottles can be recycled in your green bin? That'll make your bin odour-able!😆
I've been chairing the Health Scrutiny Board this afternoon. We always have important items. We discussed carers in the community facing racism - this is completely unacceptable behavior. People caring for vulnerable adults in our community should be praised and thanked!
Good to join the S&R Scrutiny Board to discuss the budget pressures in the Social Care budget. The work Council's do behind the scenes, to support and care for older and vulnerable adults is so important. Behind each cost line is a real person needing care.
Really positive to be at 'A City Summit for Change', looking at what we can all do support people who are homeless and/or rough sleeping. #WorldHomelessDay Great to have so many partners across the City, the Council, Health and third sector.
