“The brain, by regulating breathing, controls it’s own excitability.” -Balestrino & Somjen This statement encapsulates all of the data on how breathing rate and intensity, and thus relative levels of 02 and C02 levels in the blood, control wakefulness, attention & sleep.
Seeing how much the world accepts that it’s impossible to move on after watching CPR really makes me think about how we (medical professionals, especially those who work in Emergency departments) are expected to just move on immediately after a code.
Life philosophy: If you see something good in someone, tell them. Don’t go overboard, be authentic about it- but you have no idea how little most people have actually been appreciated.
If you’re focusing on how someone else is failing, what’s wrong with X, Y or Z, you’re wasting valuable neural real estate, building less, creating less & slipping backwards. That’s the slow lane. We all have limited forebrain resources— use them wisely.
Don’t choose words out of anger without truly thinking of the impact they could have.
There’s a finite amount of knowledge you do know, and an infinite amount of knowledge you do not know.
