The pope of the entire world was chosen in two days. No interviews. No coding challenges. Meanwhile I’ve just been scheduled for my fourth technical interview in a process that is now weeks long… See the problem yet?

Working in public is about posturing. It definitely does not foster productivity.

We are parabolic on the course to a time when only 6 developers in a city will be capable of debugging the code committed by thousands of devs using AI tools.

I do not interact with Indian technical recruiters. Some may be legitimate, but too many are scammers. If you're looking for work, I hope you're smart enough to know that you don't send a stranger a photo of your ID, and you don't put your social security number in email.

Two months ago everyone was raving that vibe coding could produce a whole app in a day. Now everyone is talking about how many unfinished projects they have. Is one day too much to dedicate to a single idea?

Wanna know why social media rules and the rest of the web is dead? POPUPS. We get straight to information on social media, without the need to close an ad, deny a mailing list, say no to desktop alerts, and confirm cookie setting Every. Single. Time.

If you can’t bootstrap from punchcards to load a driver for a 300 baud serial connection, you don’t deserve access to a computer.

Tea App hack underscores why developer expertise is still necessary. Vibe coding may be great for prototypes, but security still requires imagination and experience.

Programming is: 45% reading lousy documentation 10% writing code 15% searching meanings of unexpected errors 30% choosing variable names

There's a lot of talk about SEO being dead. But when an LLM gets stuck, it searches the web – something to think about. Users might search Google less, but LLMs are probably searching more on their behalf than ever before.

I wish more people could see technology as a set of skills rather than a way of life. Where are the devs who also rebuild classic cars, lift weights, and grow their own food?

HTML is for content organization, CSS is layout, JavaScript is programming. They are fundamentally different activities, and surprisingly few people have an appropriate aptitude for being good at all three.

Call me biased, but Vue has the cleanest templating syntax. Easy to write & expressive enough. What's your opinion?

There's really nothing stopping developers from setting a sane initial value for the year selector on D.O.B forms. If your app is for kids, start it at age 13, if it's for general adult stuff, start it at 18, if you're selling insurance, start at 50.

HOT TIP: If you're tired of seeing that "Sign in with Google" popup on every 3rd web site that you visit, just add "accounts.google.com/gsi/client" to your ad blocker. You _ARE_ using an ad blocker, right?

If the architecture of AWS, GCP, or Azure feel a bit too much for you, it may be time to look into Digital Ocean. Their cloud platform is quite simple and straightforward!

If you like watching streams on @rumblevideo you might like the Chrome browser extension I just made! It lets you schedule streams to autoplay at specified times. chromewebstore.google.com/detail/rumble-…
