A janitor making $4/hour walked into a Fortune 500 company boardroom. Shaking, he took a seat opposite the CEO. "So I had an idea..." he nervously began. Years later, that idea would become an iconic consumer brand and make him worth ~$20M. Here's how that meeting went 🧶👇

got a mutation that may increase transmission. we can't ship much vaccine as it is. use what we have for first doses and make sure we push for second dose availability as best we can! feds bungling 2 dose supply. need a quick fall back as plague explodes

4) this 1-dose is good question. @ScottGottliebMD thinks that if we have 40 million doses, we shouldn’t withhold half, but that we should just roll out 35 mil for everyone now. @ArthurCaplan also agrees. We should 1-dose vaccinate as many as possible. amp.usatoday.com/amp/3860363001

U.S. is now considering idea of a single vaccination shot, delaying shot #2 until months later. Last wk, I thought that was a bad idea – the trials that found 95% efficacy were 2 shots; why add extra complexity & a new curveball. But facts on the ground demand a rethink. (1/7)

Early, concerning information re mutation of the spike protein seen in some patients... convalescent plasma and the vaccine may not be effective against this variant.

The first evidence of in vivo SARS-CoV-2 escape from antibodies: emergent Spike deletion H69/V70 and D796H mutation in a convalescent plasma (CP) treated patient. These mutations conferred reduced susceptibility to the CP and sera from multiple donors. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
