We think we found the problem. We'll be posting an update tonight. So as soon as it's approved by Apple we'll let you know.

v1.0.2 has been submitted to Apple. Currently in review. Should be 24-48 hours from release.
v1.0.2 is in testing. fixes crash on older hardware and adds a new "finding location..." message so it's obvious if no gps lock
we've confirmed a crash condition on older hardware running iOS 3.x we are working on a fix. Minor UI updates will be included too.
1.0.1 was released by Apple. Should be in the app store in the next few hours as their systems update.
