@catcourse fantastic to have been part of faculty on another great course. Great engagement from candidates, lots of simulation, lots of learning.

On our previous @catcourse s we have previously run 10* 40 minutes lectures covering important "stuff". Our development has progressed to 10*10 minute interactive session starting with key message, open discussion, questions and summary.

1st day @catcourse @SheffChildrens The biggest killer of children in UK is TRAUMA. Henna was stabbed during a domestic. How we manage her is complex. We aim to share best practice, practise as teams and debrief effectively to improve.

In major paediatric trauma, would you avoid crystalloid in favour of blood in a shocked patient?

#CATcourse marketplace underway... In the packaging workshop we have a Kendrick splint leaderboard. Hi quickly could you put one on properly?

Trauma SIM (demo) @catcourse 7y.o significant chest injury after rta, #CodeRed activated and now bradycardic...

Mr Richard Lindley is reverse engineering the discussion about blunt abdo injuries in children: The vast majority are managed non-surgically. Good emergency medicine is usually the key treatment. Don't be thinking that the priority is to get to an operating theatre.

In major paediatric trauma there may be no pre-alert & the story given may not match the injuries found. Being able to rethink and re-evaluate are key skills. If the situation evolves: stop and ask, "What would I have done differently if I knew from the start what I know now?"

Pelvic fractures in kids really don't bleed like adults (if at all) so don't worry about pelvic binders, particularly when you don't have one that fits! #PaedsTipsForParamedics

For all you paediatric traumatologists- some consensus and some agreement to disagree on subjects such as thoracotomy for blunt trauma in kids: Paediatric traumatic cardiac arrest: a Delphi study to establish consensus on definition and management emj.bmj.com/content/early/…

Thanks to an amazing group of candidates and an excellent, hard working faculty, CAT was another big success. Thanks all!

Talking about distracting injury when deciding whether we can clear the c-spine of an injured child: True distracting injuries are significant injuries above the clavicle. Any other injury that interferes with the child's ability to comply with assessment is also a problem.

Looking forward to a good Q&A session with our resident expert paediatric neurosurgeon this morning. We might ask him about this novel use of IO needles: resus.com.au/2017/11/09/int…

On a rhodopsin rollercoaster in the lecture theatre today on the #CATcourse today so that we can see the image slides clearly. The learning point is clear though- a stomach full of air can be an abdominal cause of a breathing problem.

Cardiac arrest in trauma is one of the most controversial topic in paediatric major trauma. #CATcourse recommends 1- chest compressions only if it's not interfering with necessary interventions 2- thoracotomy only for specific situations and rarely in blunt trauma
