Storm Chase Archive
@chase_archive
The biggest collection of storm chase events on the web. For storm chasers, by storm chasers.
NEW updates to the Chase Archive 1/ Evolution of soundings over time: scroll through the slider to watch how the environment evolves through the morning and afternoon up to the event. This initial rollout will only include the priority cases (marked with an orange dot 🟠) 2/…
Crazy how we already had the chase up on the site before I could even finish driving home from it app.chasearchive.com/?q=%5BYEAR%5D&…
Before I forget 1) wanted to give a big shoutout to @ameliaUrquhart_ for perfecting the real-color appearance and implementing the ingestion of the high-res datasource for the older generation GOES satellites, and 2) psstt.... these maps are available for other select 2015-17…
When I first wrote the scripts to load historical surface obs and vis sat one of the first cases I played around with was the Monument Valley tornado in 2015. Today is the day those images now live on the web in @chase_archive instead of just on my computer. (The Montezuma Creek…

[I promise this is not an AWS joke] The app.chasearchive.com website might have been misbehaving for some folks this morning, due to a mess-up in the DNS config I made this morning. Should all be fixed now, though additional downtime may be possible tonight. Thank you for your…
Upper-air and radar data is now available on priority cases all the way back to 2015! Decided to feature SIMLA BABY! (this case has been sponsored by @StrmchsrHunterF)
Want to learn the secrets of Monsoon? Explore soundings across the desert SW with the "monsoon" tag!
From near the top of Mount Ord last night, just off the Beeline Highway, I captured these filament-filled bolts landing around the highway near Rye, Arizona. Blast of a night! More today. #azwx
Finally updated @chase_archive to feature this storm along with many others. After adjusting for surface ops, you find an extremely favorable environment for damaging, wet microbursts. Steep LLLRs, a weak EML, and deep moisture with PWATs over 2.0.
A mostly obscured bolt as a microburst tore the roof off of the hospital in Sallisaw, OK
Impressive landspout tornado today out of Nevada, the desert SW has been going wild this year!
Seen west of Highway 95, confirming that this landspout came from the Cal-Nev-Ari storm. Take cover if near thunderstorms today! #NvWx
Currently in production at @chase_archive: High-res satellite loops for cases from 2017 all the way back to 1994! Our original data source was limited to a 7 km resolution, but we now have 1 km VIS/2 km IR data.
Not only have we had a UI update but I have gone through and added a "monsoon" tag to all of the fitting cases! Now if you have a Desert lightning event that you want to study, all you have to do is add the tag!
It is now that time of year where we start to fill in the map with exceptional desert lightning and Haboobs!
New cases from the second half of July have successfully been added. Watertown is showing who's boss up north. Thank you all for your patience!
As many of you know, the last couple of weeks has been fairly active, and you may be wondering why new cases aren't updated on the website. The datasource for soundings we display on our site is having some issues. We're working on a workaround and will have an update later today…
