Old Code Dad
@code_wizard_uk
I’m a dad, I build stuff, AI helps me get shit done, and I believe in a thing called love.
I’m a British dad of 2 toddlers, the Atari ST and its games were a gateway drug to code and now I use that code with a little help from AI to speed up building stuff for my family. I talk about retro tech, cars, broken Britain, and family life. Follow me for dad jokes, poo,…
Kids today have no idea what expensive memory is. And this is 1990 money - multiply those prices by 4.
Yeah I know, not retro, but a magnificent game, really good on a Steam Deck when the kids are otherwise occupied.
I remember seeing this and desperately wanting an Atari Falcon. No way in hell I could ever afford one of course. Marketing was terrible - only ST mags and this segment from Bad Influence really let me know it existed. Did you lust after the Falcon or did you want an Amiga 1200?
Did you get an Atari STe? Did you waste money on games that didn’t work? Or did you have an STfm and look on enviously? Or were you an Amiga owner looking on with bemusement? I had a 520STfm - killed by a RAM upgrade where the STe was just plug in. If only…
1/x 🧵The Atari STe was a bit of a mess. Various bugs didn’t help but the biggest problem was that it never felt like a significant upgrade to the STFM. Not significant enough to buy a replacement machine for, which was the only upgrade path. What should Atari have done?
So did you survive the robot uprising 3 years ago? Sometimes it’s funny reading old mags where games are set in the far future and it’s just not worked out as well as we all hoped. What year disappointed you?
What’s on your Plex server? I use mine to make sure my kids get quality kids tv with no trace of THE MESSAGE, and a tonne of imagination. How many of these theme tunes are in your head right now? Any interest in a quick how to guide to getting your own Plex setup (think self…
I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t find Father Ted funny.
Behold, a clip from one of the best examples of comedic misunderstanding ever committed to film, in my humble opinion. Good day.
Lots of great games simply can’t be accessed any way other than piracy. Those games are part of our heritage as gamers and it’s important that we preserve it.
Driver: San Francisco is one of the best Ubisoft games of all time but the only way for me to play it on PC is to buy an external disc drive and an overpriced copy on Ebay, or go to 1337x and get it for free from FitGirl. Piracy is a supply issue, not a demand issue.
Very disappointed that the wife won’t let me get this for the tree.
