I'm looking forward to being part of this event in Weymouth this weekend with DIG the Street and Context One Heritage & Archaeology.
A spot of monitoring at the rather impressive Netley Abbey today. One of the last Cistercian abbeys to be built in England and a fine example of #monastic architecture.
Archaeologists have been trying to find a medieval manor at @CourtCrowcombe. @QuantockLPS and @context_one have been working with dozens of volunteers on the dig.
It’s family weekend at the @CourtCrowcombe excavation for @QuantockLPS and here we are busy excavating a lovely #Victorian plate, and all before lunch!
The 3rd day of our #exavation @CourtCrowcombe for @QuantockLPS and a great day of digging. More occupation evidence including copious amounts of window glass and lead work, a 13th century Ham Green jug handle, a stone door jamb, and, of course, a brick-vaulted #victorian drain.
First day complete! In amongst the showers our team @CourtCrowcombe have found, emerging from the soil, intriguing walls and pathways- is this the #medievalmanor? More to come over the next few weeks! #loveheritage #communityarchaeology @context_one @Quantockhills @HeritageFundUK
And here we are! The official start of the #community #excavation for @QuantockLPS at Crowcombe Court and our fine team of #volunteers for today. Let’s go find that #medieval #manor!

A #folly built in the 1770s on the hill above where we'll be excavating next week for @QuantockLPS may have used remains from the #medieval #manor...but where's the rest? It's nearly time to find out and YOU can help! Register to #volunteer here: bit.ly/3ySd4PU

Final day of digging at Bishop’s Waltham Palace. Rob removing collapsed slate roof of 12th century antechamber. Question is, what’s a dog skull doing underneath? #bishopswalthammuseum #englishheritage #medievalarchaeology
Archaeology news at Bishop's Waltham Palace: inside the West Tower at basement level there is a cross wall - who knew? Speculation on its purpose? There is no door through it so two cellars with different entrances? @EnglishHeritage @context_one @SStones
We’ve been finding all things 12th century at Bishop’s Waltham Palace. Last week a collapsed slate roof from the Norman antechamber (replaced in the 14th century) & today a wall and floor belonging to the same building. #englishheritage #bishopswalthammuseum #medievalarchaeology
Enjoying the early morning scene at Bishop’ Waltham Palace before disappearing into the west tower basement for the rest of the day. #Medievalarchaeology #englishheritage #excavation #medievalbuilding
