Yesterday we did a livestream. TL;DR: We have set internal goals of having an automated AI research intern by September of 2026 running on hundreds of thousands of GPUs, and a true automated AI researcher by March of 2028. We may totally fail at this goal, but given the…

How much are they paying him
you know this is real because i was like the number 1 openAI hater. i'm willing to forgive them for everything as long as they don't throttle me. if they do throttle me though it's Butlerin Jihad Electric Boogaloo 2 time
Cognition's internal AI coding benchmark (evaluation) is so good, OpenAI & Anthropic use it.
Agency > Intelligence I had this intuitively wrong for decades, I think due to a pervasive cultural veneration of intelligence, various entertainment/media, obsession with IQ etc. Agency is significantly more powerful and significantly more scarce. Are you hiring for agency? Are…

New data insight: How does OpenAI allocate its compute? OpenAI spent ~$7 billion on compute last year. Most of this went to R&D, meaning all research, experiments, and training. Only a minority of this R&D compute went to the final training runs of released models.
I, too, made the mistake of *checks notes* taking OpenAI's charitable mission seriously and literally. In return, got a knock at my door in Oklahoma with a demand for every text/email/document that, in the "broadest sense permitted," relates to OpenAI's governance and investors.
One Tuesday night, as my wife and I sat down for dinner, a sheriff’s deputy knocked on the door to serve me a subpoena from OpenAI. I held back on talking about it because I didn't want to distract from SB 53, but Newsom just signed the bill so... here's what happened: 🧵
Every so often, OpenAI employees ask me how I see the co now. It's always tough to give a simple answer. Some things they're doing, eg on CoT monitoring or building out system cards, are great. But the dishonesty & intimidation tactics in their policy work are really not. E.g:

We’re investing $4B in cloud and AI infrastructure in Arkansas through 2027, which includes a new data center in West Memphis, our first in the state. All part of our overall investments to help the US continue to lead the world in AI innovation. blog.google/inside-google/…
Hahahaha
Ok, all great, but where is the MONEY going to come from? OAI, now with Stargate, $NVDA, and now $AMD, has said to spend and build 26GW of data centers in the next few years. 1GW = $60B. So the total "committed" spend is now at $1.56T. In the last 5 years, $AAPL, $AMZN, $META,…
