This is an important tweet. Please burn it into your mind. You might not need it now, in 10 years or 30 years but you need to remember what I'm about to say to you.
If you are ever arrested for something serious do not talk to the police. They aren't your friend. They will be legally allowed to lie to you, make up evidence against you that doesn't exist, and use any comments you make against you.
You aren't going to get any special treatment if you talk to them. It won't keep you out of jail for the night. It's not a game, and you might think that you're smarter than them so you agree to talk to them thinking that you'll be able to see a trap coming.
It doesn't matter if you're guilty or innocent. Don't let them fool you into thinking that asking for a lawyer means you have something to hide. If you ask for a lawyer they might say something like, "Well if you don't want to talk to us we're going to go ahead and book you.
Tell them, "That's fine." If they are ready to book you into the jail that means they are convinced of your guilt and you would have been booked into the jail anyway. Talking to them is only going to hurt you.
I know it's a scary process and they may try and coerce you and convince you it is in your best interest to talk to them. Don't do it. NEVER talk to the police without a lawyer present or at least speaking to a lawyer first.
Go look on YouTube. There are law professors, some were even ex-prosecutors that have entire videos telling you why you shouldn't talk to the police. The video I'm posting below even has a police officer telling you why you shouldn't talk to the police.
You might think that this post won't apply to you. You're a decent law-abiding citizen. You've never broken the law and you don't plan on ever breaking it. You have even MORE reason to avoid talking to them.
You don't want to be one of those innocent people sitting in jail because they said or did the wrong thing. It happens all the time, a lot more than I'm sure we know.
So just please please please remember... if the police want to ask you questions, ask for a lawyer and then most importantly, STOP TALKING. Just because you ASK for a lawyer doesn't necessarily mean that they have to stop talking to you.
They may try and convince you to start talking again by asking you some mundane questions but don't fall for it. Request a lawyer... Stop Talking.
I linked this exact same video as the last tweet in the thread. 😂
I tell all mmy clients to write in big block letters I WANT A LAWYER when they give them the rights waiver to sign
I would add never let them in your spaces without a warrant.
