The access of disabled people should not be regulated by the ableism of nondisabled people.
Access for disabled people should not be subjected to a cost-benefit analysis. Justice for disabled people should not be subjected to a cost-benefit analysis. Disabled people’s lives should not be subjected to a cost-benefit analysis.
If someone you know "hates praise," there's probably a good reason for it (and you might be part of the problem!). #Autism #autistic #actuallyautistic #adhd #AuDHD #pathologicaldemandavoidance
Unintentional isn’t an excuse for discrimination. There are good people doing good work, advocating for change. We all need to look around, take note of who isn’t included + ask why. And sometimes we need to apologize, make amends + ensure it doesn’t happen again. 9/9 #vanpoli

An accommodation for disabled people is not an advantage. It is equity designed to address past and present barriers, discrimination and exclusion.
You can tell when an #AutisticAuthor writes Autistic characters— there is absolutely no substitute for lived experience. I love the illustrations, the details, the nuances, and the subtle literary devices and so did our #AusomeHumanClub today at school! #BitsyBat @KWindness
Do you use #SocialStories? Are the Social Stories you're using/ creating neurodiversity affirming? If you're unsure, this resource by Em at #NeuroWild is helpful & informative. It can be found on TPT, IG & FB. Credit: NeuroWild
The notion that disabled people have “special needs” is a construct of ableism. Access, accommodation, equity and justice are not special needs. They are human needs.
Inaccessibility is not a problem caused by disabled people. Inaccessibility is a problem caused by the discriminatory practices of those who exclude disabled people by perpetuating barriers, isolation and segregation.
A relevant quote for #education & #MentalHealth services; we now have so much more research about the importance of embracing #neurodiversity & adopting trauma informed approaches to support young #autistic #neurodivergent people #FlipTheNarrative #MentalHealthMatters

I wonder how many autistic people don’t realise they’re autistic because they see so much inaccurate, negative and deficit language used to describe autism and autistic people that doesn’t apply to them yet is spoken about as facts and universal truths about autism and autistics.
“If they’re hungry, they’ll eat what they are given”. Not necessarily. Some people, including many within the autistic community, are sensitive to texture and/or taste and physically cannot eat certain foods no matter how hungry they may be - and they’ve no choice in the matter.
Access for and the accommodation of disabled people is not special or preferential treatment. It is equity. It is justice.
