I've had an eventful few months, with leaving the NHS and starting my own freelance business, Diets Debunked. I'm excited to get back into social media to spread the word about nutrition and health!

Really don't know how I feel about restrictions completely ending- on one hand I agree that this is probably the best we are going to get as by July 19th all adults will have had their first vaccine, but the thought of another January is terrifying to me and seems imminent
The heartbreak of knowing your favourite FY1/FY2 medics will be leaving next month is not something I was prepared for to be honest
Belle Gibson docu got me thinking about when I used to have quite severe acne I was constantly asked by people have you removed dairy/have you stopped eating oily food etc we MUST understand diet is not the answer to everything
Principles of clinical nutrition #15 The NG feed probably isn’t causing the diarrhoea
Had the most wonderful first two days in my new band 6 diabetes dietitian post! Cannot wait to fully get stuck in and be able to do all of the things by myself.. seems a long way off yet but I'll get there!
Can anyone enlighten me why we actually use spouted beakers? They just increase aspiration risk and make adults feel like children
Kicking off #nutritionandhydrationweek with this reminder on thinking carefully about using spouted beakers = increased aspiration risk, infantilise & dehydrate those who can’t co-ordinate lips, tongue and spout. #banthebeaker #individualisedcare #wherehaveallthespoutsgone
So upsetting to hear that the lockdown rules have been extended. My graduation celebrations have now had to be cancelled and rearranged due to this, even though they've already been delayed a year 💔 but I know that it's for the right reasons, and ultimately postponing is right
Albumin is primarily lowered during times of inflammation, or if liver/renal function is impaired. Chronically malnourished patients do often have a low albumin, however that's usually secondary to the reason they are in hospital (like an infection etc) rather than their weight
Discussion about albumin on the ward round. Juniors tell me albumin very much being taught as being a nutritional/starvation marker, and appearing in MRCP exam questions as such. Can someone summarise the conversation about albumin and nutritional status for me in a tweet? 🙏
Not forgetting the iodine content which these plant milks are often not fortified with! In the UK, the main source of iodine is from dairy and cutting dairy products out can be a contributor to deficiency!
This whole thread rubs me the wrong way. Especially for pediatric populations inevitably impacted by this type of info. If you're comparing "milks" please include actual milk: 1%/2% Milk🥛 Calories: 110/130 Total fat: 2.5/5g Sat. fat: 1.5/3g Protein: 9g Calcium: 30% Vit. D: 45%
Cows milk is an incredible source of calcium, iodine, and complete proteins. Combine that with the fact you can get low fat options it's a great beverage and you don't need plant based options (which are mostly not fortified w iodine + lower protein) unless for ethical reasons!
I accidentally upset vegan Twitter today by saying cows milk is fine. How’s your Saturday going?
Tell me you're a dietitian without telling me you're a dietitian; I'll go first. I had a nightmare last night that somebody flushed my TPN port with water from the tap and not sterile fluids, and woke up in a cold sweat. I've never had TPN.
Who's gonna tell her
Y’all really think people had all these digestion problems and illnesses hundreds of years ago? Be honest
Ross actually thought the RD in my twitter name stood for his initials 😂😭
*screams in dietitian*
Perhaps more for End of Life, but the thought is the same. Excellent thread.
Today's topic in palliative care: tube feeds. In my experience, even families who are ready to focus on keeping their loved one comfortable have a hard time with the idea of no nutrition. My attending today said he used to hope it just wouldn't come up, but it always did.
Dietetics students who want to be clinical RDs. BURN THIS INTO YOUR MEMORY. I promise it’s worth it.
