This little baby has grown into his name! It's Jumbo & today is his rescue anniversary. At a year old, Jumbo was allegedly separated from his mother after hunting dogs scared her away in a forest. Jumbo is now living on a pre-release island. 🦧🌳 #NotAPet #Orangutan

Today's chimpanzee is Akim! Akim was a victim of the illegal wildlife trade, poached from the wild to be sold as a pet. She was rescued instead and is lucky enough to live at Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue. At the sanctuary, she has access to a forested enclosure and other chimps.

Today's chimpanzee is Shy! Shy is a rescued orphan chimpanzee who lives at Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue. At the age of 15, Shy is just reaching maturity for a male chimpanzee. By contrast, female chimpanzees reach maturity at around 13 years of age, depending on the individual.
