Grumpy old silicon Principal Engineer. AWS Tranium, ex Tesla/ARM/Samsung/AMD

My Tesla was recovered in 2 hours, along with a flood of video evidence and a “Ridin Dirty” playlist. Turns out stealing a camera computer on wheels is next-level moron.

Not buying a tesla seems like an easy fix.

ml infra is really hard. great job to everyone who worked on the debug and writeup.

In our investigation, we uncovered three separate bugs. They were partly overlapping, making diagnosis even trickier. We've now resolved all three bugs and written a technical report on what happened, which you can find here: anthropic.com/engineering/a-…

some of yall need to realize that the last microprocessor that supported nibble-addressing was the intel 4004 which was also the first microprocessor in many respects

holy shit, i just learned about bit-packing when the quantization range goes down to fp4 and it is so powerful. you don't even need to have a native fp4 datatype for this, you can just pack 2 fp4 values in 1 uint8: it goes from 2x e2m1 to 1x uint8. out = low | (high << 4)

Using infinity to postulate something untestable has a specific word in the field of engineering: It’s called “bullshit”

Coulomb is the worst of the standard metrics

1. Sign 2. Exponent 3. Mantissa

A quick quiz to check your FP knowledge. How many of these buzzwords do you know? 1. Idempotent 2. Isomorphic 3. Semigroup 4. Monoid 5. Monad 6. Functor 7. Profunctor 8. Applicative 9. Semiring 10. Ring 11. Semilattice 12. Lattice 13. Category 14. Group 15. traverse

Two things pose an existential risk to humanity: Superintelligent AI and human stupidity; and I’m not so sure about the AI

I work at Amazon to earn back the money my wife+family spend at Amazon. Really I’m just paid by boxes at the door; the actual money is circular

no one ever got fired for buying hbm

Open source Dojo DMA and RTL @elonmusk It will benefit the AI community tremendously. You said yes to my transport protocol, let the rest also benefit from lessons learned. If not, a burn-down paper like IBM used to do at the least.
