Left because then it's easy to match the open curly brace with its closing one. They line up in the same place on the line.
Thats kind of similar to how I think about it. I think it's because left creates symmetry which can be intuitive.
Exactly! Matching up braces and brackets is a headache, and having them line up helps me do it.
