Pickering managed it. They slowed the water flow using natural obstructions, planted 29 hectares of woodland. None of which would have been necessary if the moors above the town hadn't been drained to promote grouse shooting. independent.co.uk/climate-change…

Did the land sink collapse in 2023? No The land sink was low in 2023, as expected with an El Niño. The land sink will partially recover in 2024 as the El Niño subsides, but with high uncertainty. Should we worry about the climate impact on land? Yes essd.copernicus.org/preprints/essd…
🌍🌊🌡️📈 20 MONTHS! Global Sea Surface Temperatures have now been running above pre-2023 record highs for 20 months! It's even worse than the crazy Super El Niño extrapolation I made when temperatures were already very high, up to June 10, 2023:

The more we heat up the atmosphere and the oceans, the more stunning rainfall extremes we will see. It’s physics. Climate scientists have warned of this for more than three decades.
This is probably the most astonishing rainfall data I’ve ever had my hands on. Turis, Valencia, Spain, found itself in the absolute worst of last week’s extreme rain event. The town ended up with a mind-boggling 771.8 mm (30.4 inches) of rainfall over the course of 24 hours.
