If Jesus allows weeds to grow alongside the faithful, and I think it's fair to equate the weeds with lawlessness, then we can expect lawlessness (or corruption) to grow alongside Christianity.

People often ask 'would I have been a Cavalier or Roundhead', but the reality is that 99% of people in 2025 who think they would have been Roundheads would quickly reconsider their decision if they had a time machine & met the real Roundheads (mainly bonkers Puritan headbangers )

“I dread to think how the assisted dying law would operate given the reality for many vulnerable people; it’s a bloody dangerous thing to introduce into care homes.” 1003 people contacted care whistleblowers charity @CompassnInCare after I mentioned them in @spectator. A sample:

We might add that half-hearted Christianity IS precisely the problem with the world. We might even ask (in jest?) did Jesus know it would be like this?

Giving to the poor is "the ordinary path to conversion for those who wish to follow Christ with an undivided heart." (Pope Leo XIV, Dilexi te 46)

Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors; And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. #Jubilee2025 devp.org/en/campaign/tu…

Conservative workers of the world want both social and economic protection. Stop promising us one or the other as if that will solve our problems. Family and workers' rights must be integrated; otherwise, one will undermine the other.

"Pseudo-scientific data are invoked to support the claim that a free market economy will automatically solve the problem of poverty." --Pope Leo XIV, Dilexi Te. Direct rebuke to those, like the Acton Institute, who boost free-market fundamentalism as compatible with the Faith.

I have 1/10 African ancestry according to 23andme. Unfortunately, my genealogy is lacking a bit in this area. My mother was Costa Rican and let's just say her ancestry is not very well documented :)

In a July sit-down w/ @eliseannallen of @Crux, Pope Leo XIV said his Black ancestry is part of an ethnic and experiential tapestry giving him "a real appreciation for the wonderful wealth of traditions and cultures and languages that make up the world and, of course, the Church."

Jesus replaced both the ends and means of what he saw as a corrupt society. How much more corrupt is our society in comparison? Of course the challenge is greater for us, but so is the reward. We must discern our path towards holiness (while avoiding collective deceptions).

At this point, I really don’t think that the triumph of a sort of defensive, mimetic, and in many ways superficial “Christian identity” on the Right is something to be so quickly dismissed by the more scrupulous. Even if it does not always produce the best fruits, the standards…

We as Christians have no reason to believe we are any more obedient to the Word of God than the Jews have been. If anything, our faith in Jesus puts us under greater scrutiny. We may imagine we have the freedom to disobey, but we would only be fooling ourselves.

Socrates and Jesus are not the same.

Keep in mind we only know from Plato via his dialogues and what seems to be their unity In that respect, what we refer to as “Platonic political philosophy” seems to be the activity of understanding and treating the diseases of soul in the absence of certainty about the divine
