If Jesus allows weeds to grow alongside the faithful, and I think it's fair to equate the weeds with lawlessness, then we can expect lawlessness (or corruption) to grow alongside Christianity.

1 ) Secularism is bad Christianity 2 ) If secularism is the best the Christian world can produce, then it deserves to lose to Islam 3 ) Better to be a good Muslim than a bad Christian 4 ) I suspect Jesus Christ would agree 5 ) On the other hand, perhaps this is all going to plan

One can admire the Islamic metaphysical mystics and yet agree with Rémi Brague that Islam (because of its sacralising of law and lack of the Christian-derived notion of the secular) is an inherently dangerous presence in the West unless closely guarded. I unashamedly think this.

All rent-seeking should be abolished.

False. Builders provide houses. They literally build them. Prior to the rise of land-hoarders outbidding families, it was working contributors who created the demand for homes. We need to get back to that. Financialization of shelter is immoral, inefficient, & anti-productive.

I have 1/10 African ancestry according to 23andme. Unfortunately, my genealogy is lacking a bit in this area. My mother was Costa Rican and let's just say her ancestry is not very well documented :)

In a July sit-down w/ @eliseannallen of @Crux, Pope Leo XIV said his Black ancestry is part of an ethnic and experiential tapestry giving him "a real appreciation for the wonderful wealth of traditions and cultures and languages that make up the world and, of course, the Church."

Jesus replaced both the ends and means of what he saw as a corrupt society. How much more corrupt is our society in comparison? Of course the challenge is greater for us, but so is the reward. We must discern our path towards holiness (while avoiding collective deceptions).

At this point, I really don’t think that the triumph of a sort of defensive, mimetic, and in many ways superficial “Christian identity” on the Right is something to be so quickly dismissed by the more scrupulous. Even if it does not always produce the best fruits, the standards…

"Mary is that wondrous union of grace and freedom..." Yes, she is. Ave Maria!

We as Christians have no reason to believe we are any more obedient to the Word of God than the Jews have been. If anything, our faith in Jesus puts us under greater scrutiny. We may imagine we have the freedom to disobey, but we would only be fooling ourselves.

Socrates and Jesus are not the same.

Keep in mind we only know from Plato via his dialogues and what seems to be their unity In that respect, what we refer to as “Platonic political philosophy” seems to be the activity of understanding and treating the diseases of soul in the absence of certainty about the divine

Until the working poor take their vengeance and hand you over to a tyrant who will have his way with you. Fascism is the future of liberalism.

As we tear down moral guardrail after moral guardrail, we are sleep-walking into a dystopian society where there will be no ethical limits on anything that gratifies the desires of the amoral & rich. Eugenics, commercial surrogacy, overt post-natal infanticide

Not your typical #richchristianproblem Bravo @LendHopeNothing Let's go!

Father, no one has ever defined usury that way. One may misinterpret Thomas as saying that, but that would be a consequence of ignoring the context of his discussion vis-a-vi the mutuum. lendhopingnothing.wordpress.com/a-usury-catech…

No one is good but God alone.

Faith is above all a response to a gaze of love. The greatest mistake we can make as Christians is, in the words of Saint Augustine, “to presume that the grace of Christ consists in His example and not in the gift of His person.”

This is why universalism is a red herring. Pray for the dead, then get your house in order.

People love to talk deep theology, and I admire those who can, but one of the central themes of Leo XIII’s teaching, to which he returned over and over, was intensely practical: if western societies turned away from divine and natural law, they would inevitably become degenerate,…

If Trump is the best thing going for your party, that's not saying much. The road to fascism is paved with liberal intentions. Elites on both sides ignore the demands of conservative workers to their own detriment.

Donald Trump is apparently not only the best thing that the Democratic Party has had going for it for the past 8 years, but he’s boosting liberal parties elsewhere. The Conservatives were expected to win big in Canada until Trump started his bullying.
