THE LAST MONAD TUTORIAL YOU’LL EVER NEED Imagine a cake. Pretty easy, y’all seen it. (Yes, I’m being intentionally ableist towards people who never saw a cake. Sorry, but you won’t understand monads if you don’t know what a cake is. Stop reading and go eat a cake.) Now,…
🩸Blood lactate [BLa] does NOT increase exponentially during high intensity exercise 🧑🔬 Why do we make this common mistake? I think because we have focused too much on the lactate test And forgotten what information that test is trying to give us about real exercise 🧵1/14

Nice review of data > vibes! My initial thoughts: "zone 2" is not magic. Z2 is better when we can do more volumes of it If we are time/volume-limited, Z2 becomes proportionally less important If we are stress-limited (training or non), Z2 becomes proportionally more important IMO

It's out!! I am so excited to share this review addressing popular beliefs and claims within popular media around Zone 2 training. I feel very privileged to have worked on this with my amazing co-authors, Dr. Brendon Gurd, Andres Moran-MacDonald, and @gibalam Social media has…

Guys, how they coded C compiler in C itself 🤔 The fact that the C compiler has to be compiled itself before it can compile any C code. And if that C compiler is written in C, wouldn't compiling it require an already existing compiler?

Today, we’re announcing the preview release of ty, an extremely fast type checker and language server for Python, written in Rust. In early testing, it's 10x, 50x, even 100x faster than existing type checkers. (We've seen >600x speed-ups over Mypy in some real-world projects.)

ty, our upcoming static type checker and language server for Python, is accidentally on the front page of HN. We're rapidly closing in on an initial "experimental preview release"...

With Whoop's recent announcement of VO2max estimates I thought I'd share some references from back in the day about wearables and VO2max accuracy. This topic goes waaay back. I was selling VO2max algo's for Firstbeat in 2015. Welcome to the club Whoop! There's a lot to digest…

In our recent meta-analysis we found: 🔴Higher level competitive athletes improved VO2max modestly more with Polarised training 🔷Lower level recreational athletes modestly more with Pyramidal training This is what those differences looks like 👇 But is this meaningful? 🤔1/🧵

The trigonometric functions sine and cosine were introduced by Aryabhata, an Indian mathematician and astronomer, in about 500 CE. He gave tables of half chords, which are equivalent to sines, and used the term jya for sine. The tangent function was introduced by Muhammad Ibn…

We're currently observing a massive surge in sign-ups for @ProtonVPN originating in the U.S. Typically, we see such spikes from countries with unstable governments facing internet shutdowns, meaning this is an anomaly.
