I remember in my 20s there being a bunch of cultural messaging that was like "say yes to everything!" and "live like there's no tomorrow!" these are both terrible pieces of advice. Combined, they're a recipe for being taken advantage of and terribly hung over

This episode of Bingo is called Bingo

The phrase "hurt people hurt people" implies that people who've been hurt are dangerous. Statistics show that most abuse victims do not go on to abuse others

Fitbit awarded me a bunch of "fitness zone minutes" for the panic attack I went through last night

Thank God for rancho Bravo. I should have eaten two burritos It has been a night

Proponents of driverless cars say "they cause fewer fatal accidents than human drivers" but I've seen the videos of AI cars - they drive so erratically and unpredictably that I'm sure people get into wrecks trying to avoid them, which likely aren't counted as AI related accidents

Searching wikipedia is often faster and more accurate than searching google. I put the wikipedia app on the front page of my phone about six months ago and I use it many times per day.

Thinking about how it's possible to have "comfortable retirement" as one of the main goals of work, but still look back at periods of time off and go "oh shucky dang darn, I didn't use that time productively"

They're letting the white cops in Memphis off the hook like 50 years ago "The Wayne County Prosecutor charged the three African American STRESS officers with intent to murder while exonerating the white police officer who actually killed Deputy Henderson" policing.umhistorylabs.lsa.umich.edu/s/detroitunder…

Wish I could change tweet visibility to "private" like old LJ. I have made some ugly tweets lately, but my tweets are the most 'journaling' that I do, and I don't want to just delete writing that came from a genuine place. e.g. I could see if I write like this every winter

Is it me or are most of the issues being debated on here essentially reruns of issues that have already been debated? In the case of the CAFE standards this exact thing literally went around twitter last year around spring or summer (the issue itself is 11 years old)

All I can find about this says that the Obama-era CAFE updates "retained" this large vehicle loophole, but all the framing I've heard seems to imply the obama update *created* it. In classic Obama fashion it looks like it was an incremental improvement upon existing standards

Obligatory reminder that this phenomenon is a direct result of Obama era CAFE regulations, and that people predicted *at the time* that these regulations would increase the size of cars. From 2011 - me.engin.umich.edu/news-events/ne…
