RMI released this report last week which has attracted a bit of attention on social media. /1 rmi.org/insight/the-cl…
"Wind is intermittent" 4 out of 10 nukes down, one running reduced output.
Boom: China's battery energy storage additions saw a major acceleration in the second half of 2025, with 43GW of capacity added, compared with 23GW in the first half and 44GW during all of 2024.
New estimates put Africa’s solar at 63GW, shattering previous counts of 23GW. Driven by flood of off-the-radar imports, Africa went from zero to 63 GW in under a decade Africa is now the fastest-growing region for solar globally. Slowly, then suddenly. pv-magazine.com/2026/01/22/afr…
China crossed 50% (53.9%) penetration in EV heavy-duty truck sales — not cars, not buses, but heavy freight, the most brutally economic transport segment. 2025 sales hit 231,100 units (+182% YoY), with annual penetration at 28.9% vs 13.6% in 2024. #LFP #Lithium That alone should…
Pakistan imported ~50 GW of solar modules in just 3 years — about 200% of its blackout-prone fossil fleet. This wasn’t policy-driven, it was pure economics. Solar arrived quietly, then all at once. When power gets cheap and reliable, LNG gets dumped. #BESS pv-magazine.com/2026/01/20/pak…
Ping @CGCooke
Dang, amazon just bought 1.2 GW of solar + 1.2 GW of storage:
Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with 24GW/120GWh of storage (5 hrs at av demand) Results: Last week: 100% RE Last 230 weeks: 98.6% RE (1/5)
Wind and solar power generation growth in China last year was roughly equal to the total power generation of France or Texas, and covered all of the growth in China's electricity use, even as demand grew at over 5%.
Nobody is “telling” them anything. They are buying solar because it’s cheap and easy to deploy.
Africa needs abundant energy to prosper. Telling Africans they must use expensive, unreliable "green" energy is immoral. The West should be encouraging Africans to develop using affordable, reliable fossil fuels—like every prosperous country has.
#AkayshaEnergy completes its second big battery project – five months ahead of schedule – and its first with #Tesla Megapack technology.. reneweconomy.com.au/new-queensland…
To be fair, this is what has always concerned me about Tom’s work.
By “commercial forces”. 🤦♂️ Commercial forces are real, they prevent me from purchasing a new VHS or DVD player, from buying a 4 MB USB stick and from flying on a Spruce Goose. Technology moves on. Who knew. 🤷♂️
A reminder that @CSIRO assumes you will be "prevented" from owning a diesel or electric vehicle until the "natural end of life". Because global and national policies will create a "lack of services to keep those vehicles easily fuelled and repaired" after 2030. This is fine.🤨
This might actually be the funniest LinkedIn post I've ever seen
This is absolutely on brand for Aidan. Find a trivial issue and blow it up. LNP changed their policy a month before the release of the GenCost *consultation* draft. 😵💫
Look what @CSIRO still has written in their latest GenCost draft, released mid December. "bipartisan policies of net zero emissions by 2050" The Coalition dropped support for Net Zero in November. Catch up CSIRO! No more excuses for your skewed costs of coal.
Dear Battery Industry, I've got you a new slogan 😜🔋
Ms Wilcox is on fire ! 🔥
NEW Q&A: What UK’s record auction for offshore wind REALLY means for bills and clean power by 2030 In which Molly Lempriere and I dig into the details in search of nuanced answers, while knocking some of the most misleading commentary on the head carbonbrief.org/qa-what-uks-re…
Damn. 8.4GW of offshore wind just approved in the UK. Great antidote to high price natural gas. theguardian.com/environment/20…
